Hello
In "Berlin Gatow" you can find a Me 163 and a
Me 109 (spanish)
In "Hannover Laatzen" there are one Me 109 and one Fw 190.
In Munich at the "Deutsches Museum" you will find a Me 262
and a 109. And if you are in Dresden you are not fare from Prag who has one Me 262 and one 109 both tjeck-built.
The German Army Tank museum is situated in "Munster Lager"
half way between Hannover and Hamburg

Canon,

there exist a book about all aviation museums in Germany. You can find there how you reach
these museums, address, what is exhibited inside the museum, costs etc.

The name of this book is 'Lexikon der Luftfahrtmuseen in Deutschland' written by Rudolf Storck and published under ISBN 3-925505-22-9 by Aviatic Verlag, Munich.

My oppinion about Sindsheim and Speyer is nice, but the museum disappoints, cause they show
a Ju 52 or parts of a Bf 110 in Speyer but you can't get any detailed informations f.e. where was it found, which kind of aircraft is it etc.

Alex

Join us at the "Luftfahrtmuseum Laatzen-Hannover".

Try our homepage: http://www.luftfahrtmuseum-hannover.de

We show a Bf 109 G and a Fw 190A (this time the only one in static display), we have also really lots of Luftwaffe-memorabilas (many personal items of exponated
Luftwaffe-members)

The site at http://www.aviation.inhh.de/ has a nice
feature: select a particular aircraft and it lists
the museums showing one.

As a related question, does anyone have experience on
how different museums treat photographers? I plan on
modeling certain tanks and planes on computer and would
like to get as much reference material as possible ==
use film like crazy! It'd be a shame to go all the way to,

Complementing Marcus Wendel's Museums & Memorials page on his Third Reich Factbook website is Mikael Olrog's Preserved Axis Aircraft Throughout the World website.

Where the museums and memorials page looks at these facilities country by country, noting the aircraft in each museum or memorial, Mikael's website organizes by type of aircraft, engine, or missile, noting at which museums or other facility these are located at.

The address for Mikael's website is: http://www.axisaircraft.com

Hi to all!

Well the aircraft is a Fw 19OD-9/Rl 1, engine Jumo 213A-1 is ready for display!. From cockpit to tail the fuselage is entirely new, but nose and cockpit including tail and elevators are almost entirely original. The plane was build with number 210968, and flown by Feldwebel Bruno Ostrowski at 1. group, 2. Staffel JG 26 Schlageter as Schwarze 8 (black 8). Ostrowski died when his plane touched the water surface of a lake at age 26 (all info from Erhard Cielewicz)

Hi,
Photos of the recovery of this aircraft , show the entire airframe basically intact - although in three major sections - front fuselage , including engine - fuselage from aft of the cockpit to the tail section and the tail itself. The wings were also recovered , but in a very badly distorted condition.
I am wondering why the museum was forced to build a completely new fuselage - what happened to the original? perhaps it became unusable after sitting in storage for years ? ] Anyone have a comment !
regards
Dave.

Hey Dave!

Well the wings were twisted because the Feldwebel who flew it crashed on the water surface snapping of the wings. The fuselage was corroded by the water, although looking still pretty well preserved the inside was a mess and not strong enough to be put on display.

Sincerly,

Tue Aug 15 08:07:26 2000

Hello!

I know this is a little off-topic, but I hope our German enthusuasts can help me out....

I understand there is a Luftwaffe Museum at Uetersen, which is near Hamburg.

I will be making a business trip to Hamburg this weekend and would really like to visit the place. Problem is - I only have 1 to 1-half days free, so I need to know:
-- how far is the museum from Hamburg HBF (train station)?
-- how long travelling time?
-- Is the museum open on Saturdays? (Yes - according to World Aviation Museums w/site)

Tried to get some info from the Web, but couldn't find anything apart from general stuff on the World Aviation Museums w/site.

Thanks in advance

Hi,

the Luftwaffenmuseum moved to Berlin-Gatow.

But if you are interested, I can recommend those two museums
in the big area around Hamburg (150km):

Luftfahrtmuseum Laatzen-Hannover (see homepage www.luftfahrtmuseum-hannover.de) (http://www.luftfahrtmuseum-hannover.de))

includes a high quality Luftwaffe-colletion with many very rare items, also the only original Fw 190 A in Germany as static display; a Bf 109 G; a Spitfire Mk XIV and a
lot of other aircraft.

Also very interesting is the "Aeronauticum" in Nordholz, a large collection of navyflight.

Tue Aug 15 10:41:20 2000

Hi,

don't waste your time with Gatow. It's trash compared to the ancient lovely and comfortable Luftwaffenmuseum at Uetersen. After the so-called re-union some German
politicians decided, that all the stuff should be concentratd in Berlin. That's why they carried the nice planes to Gatow, where they are now rottening in some hangars.
No money, they told me, to repair & display the CASA 111, the Buchon, the Fw 190 D and so many others. What you will see in Gatow is less than 30 % of the
Uetersen-stuff.

Despite of that they have enough money to buy MiG 21-hulls by a dozen. Wow, I'm so impressed!

Oh, I'm so angry!

Bf110 F-2 LN+NR 'Rollout' 16.09.00
Sun Sep 17 10:44:51 2000

Hi all

Well yesterday (Saturday) I was lucky enough to go to the rollout fot he Deutsches Technische Museums Bf110 F-2 'Trop', stz TI+LE, LN+NR of 13.(Z)/JG5.

It has been on stratic rebuild for the last 18 months at Friedrichshafen on lake Constance and although not totally complete, it was in a very good and remarkable condition.

Basically the aircraft was on its wheels, both engines, propellors and bost of the metal work had been completed. The only items remaining to do which will happen over
the next few months are metalwerk to undercarriage wheelwell, and completion of the painting of the RLM74/RLN75 blotches over an RLM02 base to the fuselage sides.
They qre currently sorting out different spraying techniques for the fuselage sides (to be based most probably on the famous colour shot of LN+SR in flight). It looks as
though these blotches were on an 02 base instead of the 76 base which went up to the demarkation line at the top of the fuselage. It will also be completed with the 'dackel'
(Dachsund emblem on the side).

(I believe there is a researcher in Germany that has undertaken research on factory/luftwaffe spraying techniques, spray widths and lacuers used etc. I have his ducmeunt
somewhere in an A4 folder but cannot find it. if anyone knows of this document or the author, please let me know).

The interior to the cockpit if now complete with the instruments as well as most of the gear for the Bordfunk. They are still missing a few items such as the four MG17's and
the single MG15. They will also be looking for two SC250kg and 2 SC50kg bombs although where these will come from is not known at present. (Any suggestions?)

Also present there along with about 300 guests and locals were a numbe rof Ex-110 pilots and JG5 memembers. The three recognisable ones were Schloßtein and
Sarognik from JG5 and Wolfgang Falck.

Hopefully the Bf110 will be finished and off to Berlin later this year and I cannot wait to see it finally finished after seeing it after recovery in Autumn 1992.

I hope to have the photos back on Monday. If Christer or anyone else has a web site to put them on, I will send a jpeg.

Anyway, Switzerland and back in a day. It was well worth it.

Hope you enjoy the hptoos later.

Bf109 E-3 W.Nr1407 completion.
Sun Sep 17 11:02:45 2000

Hi all

The Bf109 E-3 is also nearing completion.

It is likely to be completed in the last identity which is the one it was lost in.

1941-07-17 Bf 109E-4B 1407 14./JG 77 Bei Petsamo
Luftkampf. Bruch 100 %. Rot 5.

One question. Would W.Nr1407 belonging to 14./JG77 have carried the II/JG77 emblem? of the eagles head after it had left II/JG77 and went to 14./JG77.

this is the big question.

hopefully this will be completed by the 60 anniversary of its first crash landing on the 27th October whilst with 5./JG 77 on the Island of Hitra.

As soon as I have photos of this i will also let you know.

Let me know about the emblem.

Sorry, you have forgoten the museum in Dreden-Neustadt. I think this is more than interesting because the complete museum was new contructed, with many new material and original tanks(!).

Berlin-Gatow is not very interesting becuase many mistakes we have found by the show of a/c, many a/c stand up out doors and very very weatherworn. If the poeples there found no investor in the next years to restoring then will be closed this museum while no a/c will be see.

Sorry my English is bad, but I hope of understaning.

Hi Richard

i was lucky enough to be at the roll out.

A lot fot he Bf110 E-2 was used in the restoration of the F-2. Very little remains of it.

It was a shame both could have not been restored, the E-2 to static and the F-2 to flying but no one took it on. Possibly with a lot of time and money, the E-2 could be
restored but it would take a lot of money.

The Bf110 F-2 should be fully completed (painted) etc within a few months and then put on dispaly in Berlin.
