Recovery of 2/JG26's Fw 190D-9.
Sun Oct 15 02:33:03 2000

Hello everyone!

On the last pages of Axel Urbanke's excellent book "Green Hearts, first in combat with the Dora 9" four nice color photos of 2/JG26's "black 8" can be found. The photos
were taken in 1990, when the Focke-Wulf was recovered from Schwerin Lake. The Dora was very well preserved by the cold water, for this reason I'd like to get additional
information about this a/c. It would be nice to know where the plane has been stored, if a complete restoration is being considered and, if so, where this potent fighter is
going to be displayed.

That's all for now, many thanks in advance.

A series of photos taken at the Deutches Museum can be found at:

http://community.webshots.com/album/162120

The series is entitled German WW2 Fighter Planes: Me 109, Me 262, Me 163 - Some German fighter planes of WW2 that are on display at the Deutsches Museum in Munich. The only name associated with these is Sascha. The reference to these photos was found under Sascha's Photo Album on the JG 77 "Herz As" website of Michael "pritzl" Albert:

The "Fördervereins Technikmuseum Hugo Junkers Dessau" appears to have two website addresses:

http://www.technikmuseum-dessau.de
http://www.stadt-land.de/technikmuseum/home.htm

The museum has a Ju 52. The websites give historical information on Hugo Junkers, some of his early aircraft, and the Junkers concern. Visitor information is provided.

A related website address:

http://www.dessau.de/amt41/kulttour/de/kultur/k08.html

shows 2 photos of the Ju 52 and provides more information regarding the museum holdings:

Tranlating via Altavista:

"the technique museum " Hugo Junkers " wants to obtain the industrie and aviation history of the region alive and descriptive. Even if it is still in the structure, can be visited already important exhibits, documents and industrial products.

Worth seeing the JU 52/3m (" aunt JU ") particularly is, which came 1995 from Norway to Dessau.

Among the remarkable technical thinking marks rank:

the Junkers wind tunnel (1933/34)
the compass base for the adjustment of the instruments in the airplane (1935)
the Junkers Verwaltungshochhaus (1934/35)"

Richard

The Werftverein was a new one to me, so I took a look at the site Alex mentioned above. This museum contains (with photos of each on the site) a couple of WW II era German aircraft and several aircraft engines:

Aircraft

CASA 2.111 B (Heinkel He 111 H16)
Junkers W33

Engines

Argus AS 17A
BMW 801
Hirth HM 6 Junkers Jumo 004
Junkers Jumo 205
Junkers Kumo 211
Junkers Jumo 213
Junkers L5G

In addition, there is a general history given for the Do 335 and a specific history for Do 335A-0 W.Nr. 240102, including photos.

Richard

Richard,

I know this Werftverein in Schleißheim since 1993. They exhibited in hangar 4 their aircaft engines and you can see the men on the restauration on these engines.

The chairman is Bernd Junkers, a member of the familiy of Hugo Junkers. He is related with a Museum in Dessau.

Greetings,

Alex

The Old Junkers Aircraft website, by Christoph Vernaleken, presents a minor collection of technical data and images on 6 Junkers aircraft. The website address is:

http://junkers388.terrashare.com/JunkersUS.html

Aircraft covered are:

Junkers W 33

Brief background with color photo taken during presentation in Bremen, Germany.

Ju 52/3m (French license-built Ju 52, AAC-1 "Toucan")

Color photo taken in Deutches Museum, Munich, Germany.

Ju 88 A

Color wartime postcard

Ju 388 L-1

One B&W photo. Links to Ju 388 website and article and photos of BMW 801 fuel injection pump.

Ju 90 V1

One B&W photo.

Ju 290 A-5

One color photo in flight.

Ju 290

Eleven B&W photos from microfilm.

Except for the last item, technical data has been provided for each of these aircraft. Any swastikas present in the original pictures have been removed due to German censorship.

Regards,
Richard

The Fw 190 is definitely a replica, and the 109 is a Spanish one fitted with, if I remember correctly, a DB 605. What they do have is the wreck of a Stuka and a wreck of a
Ju 88, but the latter looks horrible, as some "specialists" have done an incredibly bad job comleting it as a mockup.

Cheers,

Christoph
