For so called Höhenmotoren mit exhaust gas turbine driven compressors have not been available in 1942 in Germany, the Germany aero engine industry developed to "devices" for output increase of aero engines.

MW 50 system. Water-methanol injection - but operation limited to some 2 minutes due to thermal and material stress of the engine

GM-1 system. Oxigene injection into the intace duct of the Höhenlader for
- cooling of the engine
- more oxigene to allow burning of more fuel
The GM-1 tank was set under pressure by a "ram air intake" in front of the supercharger of the DB or BMW 801 engine. By operating a electromagnetic(?) valve, the "ram-air" set the storgage tank for the oxigene containing fluid under pressure and at the same moment this fuid went into the supercharger inlet duct by a spray-nozzle. It is reported by Kurt tank himself, that this GM-1 system could be operated for 10...20 minutes until the storage tank for the "oxigene fluid" was empty.

For details pls contact Dipl.-Ing. Helmut Schubert of MTU aero engines and Deutsches Museum in Munich.

Volker Leiste
