KG 27 History - Available?
Wed May 16 17:00:40 2001

Hi All,

Is there a good history of KG 27 that has been written? I recently aquired a nice DKiG grouping to a vetran who was in that unit and would like to do some research.

Thanks!

Rick

Rick -

The first volume of the KG 27 unit history, "Boelcke-Archiv Band II" covers the period 1934 to 31 Dec 1940. It's privately published, softcover, all in German and first appeared just six months ago. I have corresponded with the author, Walter Waiss, a couple of times and there will be several more volumes (Bände) but there is no publishing schedule. Herr Waiss, who lives with his family in Neuss in the Ruhr, has a full-time job and works on the history as time allows. If you appreciate a well-done, detailed and accurate chronological history, and not just a bunch of photographs (although Band II includes about 40 photos, mostly in color), then this is an outstanding production. The material for Band II (272p.)and the subsequent volumes was assembled over a 10-year period from several hundred members of the "Traditions Gemeinschaft Boelcke" (KG 27 Veterans' Association) using their personal photos, flight logs, diaries, letters home, documents, etc. Herr Waiss is only publishing around 500 copies of each volume because, as he has stated, it's mainly intended for the surviving veterans and their immediate families. I got my copy from Christian Schmidt in Munich, DM 69,-.
Hope this helps.

Hi Larry,

Also, do you have a contact website, address, etc for the veteran's assoc you mentioned??

Could you also send me the author's email address (or send him mine if you feel that is more proper) as I have a very nice photo album with original pictures belonging to a DKiG winner from KG27 he may be interested in using for future volumes.

Thanks,

Rick

Rick,

You might try the following address obtained from the magazine "Luftwaffen-Revue" (Deutscher Luftwaffenring e.V.). My copy is a bit dated but the addresses tend to rarely change. If not joy, then you can contact the magazine direct, or, perhaps someone has the latest issue of the magazine and can verify the addresses below.

Cheers,

David
