I am looking for info on searching my grandfathers service records in the luftwaffe.his name was Kurt Gustav Kwidor and what I know is he flew DO17 recco from 39' till 41', was posted to the eastern front in BF109's then to africa where he was injured.he was put off active service and flew JU52's until 44', then sent to an flak division in the east, finally he and other "retreads" where sent to a ME 262 unit.
I am looking for info on his units,no's,histories, anything else that would help. I know he was decorated but he traded his medals, uniforms etc for cigarettes
off the yanks after the war (go figure?).
if anyone can steer me in the right direction ,i would be most appreciative,.
thank you

First I would cotact the Wehrmacht Auskunftsstelle (WAST) in Berlin.
You can find more details about WASt here on this website.

Then write to 'Jägerblatt' a newspaper of
the former german fighter pilot association of the Luftwaffe. I would add a foto of your fahther.

Do you know where your father came from as a was assigned to the 'Me 262 unit'? That could be helpful.

Regards und viele Glück bei der Suche!

Service records, with the exception of SS, are in the Bundesarchiv Zentralnachweisstelle Aachen. See for further information chapter "Research guidelines" Handbook for the (re)search of Luftwaffe personnel item 1.3. of this LWAG site.
There are two main problem for getting this information. First you cannot do the research by yourself and secondly it cost you DM30(about $15) per half hour.
Therefore Marcel Hogehuis and me were wondering if there is an other source for this information. Is it possible that this career information is also available in the US or in the UK?
We do know that the career information of Luftwaffe big shots was available in the Air Ministery in the UK. Socalled AirMin files.
