I was sent several photo's taken this year of Walter Nowotny's memorial site at the place of his crash in his 262. The memorial is obviously taken care of, and is in great shape.

My question is what are the arrows or such on the shield?

Do they mean anything? Thanks!

Those are runes that denote "death". Flip them 180° and they are the symbol for "birth"

What are the boards that support the shield? Do they denote remains from the crashed Me 262, or is there no significance? Thanks much.

Kenneth

Kenneth - those are supposed to be pieces of the 262. The person who sent me the pics did a little research and this is what he was told.

Also, the two oak trees on either side of the memorial were planted by comrades when the memorial was laid out.
