thank you for very valuable answer. Are all this data from WASt? I thought that WASt files do not contain data on planes in which pilots were wounded or lost their life.
Does BA Verluste film show no info on this?
Can I, please, contact you off board?

Staffelkapitän 1./KG 26 yes or no ?

Hi,
THE BLITZ THEN & NOW,Volume 2,page 283 records the loss of a He111H-5 of 1./KG 26 : (ff) Oblt. Albert von Schwerin - (bo) Oblt. Hunno Philipps (Staffelkapitän) - (bs) Stabarzt Dr. Albert Leuchtenberg and Ofw. Heinz Göhler and Ofw. Fritz Gundlack;date of loss 19/11/1940.
I can find this crew in the loss list of 'ACHTUNG - TORPEDO LOS! written by former unit member Rudi Schmidt. But in the list of the staffelkapitäne of 1./KG 26 there is no Hunno PHILIPPS mentioned as StaKa ?!?
Hptm. Wolfgang Künster 07/04/40 - 11/09/40
Hptm. Heinrich Richard 12/09/40 - 11/12/40
I also want to know who was the (bf) and (bm) of the two Ofw.
Does anyone know where I can find more information about this matter ? Or does anyone have a solution ?
e-greetz,
Dirk TOLLET

Possible solution
Wed May 22 08:34:08 2002
129.240.8.184
Hi!
The solution would be to dig out the WASt report on the loss, and also the record from Gen.Qu.Abt.6.
I would guess that it is in file RL 2 III/1175, available from BA/MA Freiburg.
Howevere, a solution to Your questions on Phillips not being or being the Staka of 1./KG 26 could simply be a misinterpretation: The Staffel number is not very often used in the reports, usually only the Gruppe number. Check for his name in 2. and 3. Staffel also. (Assming You haven't done this already). I could offer to look it up for You, but I am afraid I could not promise to do it very fast....

Andreas

A question RE: II/JG77's usage of MC205s
Fri Jun 7 19:10:30 2002
198.81.16.164
Hi:
I was reading over the new profile book by Claes & Christer; I came across an interesting entry; apparently II/JG77 actually went into combat with Macchi Mc205s for a while...from what I read: No losses & reasonable successes.
Does anyone have any info re: the actual record for II/JG77 while flying the Macchis' & the pilots' impressions, if they were given?
Thanks, ahead of time;
NickM

Here we go...
Fri Jun 7 22:30:31 2002
151.27.18.219
II./JG 77 was completely re-equipped with both captured and newly-built Macchi C.205s since October 1943. The unit suffered at least three deaths and one wounded pilot during the training, partly due to the reverse-operating throttle used by the Italians. These were subsequently modified accordingly. The German unit transferred to Lagnasco a/f (Cuneo) on 6 November 1943 and started to operate with a maximum of 23 C.205s on strenght.
It effected several scrambles on 8/11, 9/11, 25/11, 26/11, 28/11. On 1 December the unit claimed one P-38 shot down during a combat of 9 C.205s (scrambled 16, seven aborted mission for various causes) against 25 P-38s of 49th FS, 14th FG escorting B-17s over Turin. This is the only (unconfirmed) claim made by the Germans while flying the C.205.
Other scrambles followed on 4/12, 10/12, 23/12 and on 24/12 (one C.205 was lost for a fire on board compelling the pilot to crash-land, remaining wounded). Five more scrambles were made between Christmas and 30/12. The last flight of 30/12 was made by six C.205s against enemy bombers which weren't intercepted.
On 31 December, All the Macchi C.205s were officially handed over to the newly constituted 1° Gruppo Caccia A.N.R. (but this is another story...) and the II./JG 77 went back to its Bf 109s.
The German pilots had extremely good recollections of the C.205 and of its capabilities and some remarks were even put in the unit's Kriegstagenbuch (War Diary):
"Fast plane with good behaviour, except for a tendency to enter in spins if turns are exceedingly tight. Main defects are the radio equipment and the complicated fuel and ammo supplying operations on the ground. It is however a real fighter."

All the above is a much simplified version of a research I made for an article that was published on 1993 in Italy.

possible NJG 1 aircrew ?
Tue Jun 11 12:09:15 2002

I have a list of names of German military personel buried at the German cemetary near Sint-Truiden (Saint-Trond) airfield. In addition to many pilots and aircrew (not exclusively of NJG 1), many non aircrew were also buried there but usually their unit is clearly indicated (flakregiment, ...).
I have been unable to find out if the four listed below belonged to the aircrew of NJG 1. Could anyone confirm that they were or were not pilots, bordfunkers or other aircrew with NJG 1? If they were part of the aircrews, and if deceased due to a flying incident/accident, I would like to obtain details of the circumstances of this event. The four names are:
Uffz Franz Käser 5./NJG 1
Gefr Rudolf Scherzmya 12./NJG 1
Uffz Herman Fischer IV./NJG 1
Oblt Kleinschmidt IV./NJG 1
Thanks in advance for clearing this one

Melvin,
Thanks for completing the details about these three.
Coming to think of it, maybe I could have checked the German war graves internet site also. I will try to visit the Lommel war cemetary this summer where all those buried at Sint-Truiden were transfered to. I've been there already once many years ago when I was not yet interested in this aspect of aviation history. Maybe I can find out more details about Herman Fischer at the website or at the Lommel cemetary. I'll pass it on to you when I have more details.
Once again, thanks

Hello Co,
hobby colleagues told me that a response to one´s request takes about half a year (possibly due to the little number of personnel). Some weeks ago I have started my very first request at this institution.
As far as I know the WASt keeps all the files of people who served with the Wehrmacht, have a closer look at that site.
