RLM-Farben makes authentic WW II paints to RLM specifications. The German language website for this company is:

http://www.rlm-farben.de/german/index.htm

RLM-Farben can offer authentic historic paints for aircraft, motor vehicles, ships, and models, as seen in the section entitled Anwendungen (Applications). Four examples with color photos are shown of the following aircraft that have had RLM-Farben colors applied:

Focke-Wulf Fw 190 of the Flugzeugmuseums Laatzen-Hannover

Messerschmitt Bf 110 of the Technikmuseums Berlin during rollout

DFS 230 fuselage of the Luftlandegeschwaders 1 (LLG 1), Wertheim

Jumo 210 for Messerschmitt Bf 109 B, Bf 109 B - restoration group

Udet U10 of the Technikmuseums Berlin - no photo as of yet

Under the section entitled Quellen (Sources) are available two Zip documents in MS-Excel format. The following is an Altavista translation from the RLM-Farben site that discusses these tables:

"Our colours and lacquers are not the result of amateurful searches, but in autoritative excerpt of scientific research: We analyse only the historical truth excluding primary sources and feel obligated. Special field can you considered the up-to-date knowledge status in this so far little our table

Oberflächenschutzverfahren und Anstrichstoffe (Surface protection procedure and coating materials)

(In the MS Excel format) infer, which we constantly further-maintain. In a second table named

Schrifttum (bibliography)

we reveal the consulted sources (regulations and other documents). For unpacking the ZIP files compressed in form you need supplied tables a program such as WinZip."

The above is followed with 3 examples from historical documents, with the following commentary:

"In our extensive file numerous original documents are like those shown color card here from the 1930er years (you click on one of the small preview pictures to see around an increased figure). We create our expert's assessments and our production without exception on original and indisputable sources like these!"

I downloaded the 2 Zip files and for those interested in the actual historic information on establishing what aircraft colors to use where, these will prove to be an undoubted boon. Hardly complete, but fascinating nonetheless.

The Links section lists a variety of links from one dealing specifically with color to restorations, history, museums, artwork, and modeling.

Richard

I am unaware of any restoration sites for these aircraft . The F-2 is soon to be displayed at MVT Berlin , the E is still in storage I think. I have scans of the aircraft which I took during the restoration at Friedrichshafen in November 2000 - if you are interested let me know and I will forward you a few.

Hello,

Check out this site :

It gives you the most regarding Rechlin.

Best regards Frithjof

(I did, indeed, check out this site. This is the site for the Luftfahrttechnischen Museum Rechlin. On display are some of the old buildings in mainly a dilapidated state of repair, plus some indoor artifact exhibits. The site has a discussion forum.

However, if one is looking for an extensive history of E-Stelle Rechlin, only a very cursory amount of material is presented on the site. One would be better directed to the book by Heinrich Beauvais et. al.: "Flugerprobungstellen bis 1945".

Regards,
Richard)

FW190Crash Obersdorf
Tue Jun 18 13:11:21 2002
62.41.2.68

Between 1993-1995 a crashed FW190 was recovered from a small lake or swamp near the village Obersdorf. (Muncheberg Germany)
I met a guy who found the wreckage of the plane .
There is a chance that the remains of that Fw190 were brought to the Museum Verkehr & Technik in Berlin. I tried to contact them but no reaction.
The guy I met doesn't know what happened, he having the pilot seat and the front window of that plane, definite Fw190.
It is also possible that the wreckage was brought to Friends of the Museum.
Does anybody know something about this crash ???

Battle of Britian markings - yellow tails.
Thu Jun 20 22:52:04 2002

Hi all

Just trying to find out a bit more of some interesting information.

It relates to Bf109 E-3 E.Nr1407 which is currently nearing completion for the Berlin Tehnische Museum. This was recovered from a lake in the 1990's and has been restored in Hungary.

Went through 3 or 4 ID's. Basically it is the first or second I am interested in.

During the restoration is it was noted that the outer tips of the tailplane had been painted yellow. This was not for Northern Russia, but from the previous service in late 1940.

It seems the aircraft had belonged II/JG77 'Black 2'in early 1941 and I/JG77 'Red 5' summer 1941, it it thought neither carried yellow taiplane tips.

It also carried a '8' and a <+ marking. Looking through the publications, it seems JG3 and JG26 carried this marking. Is there any other. Would be nice to find out the unit for 1407 during the Battle but I think it is a bit difficult. Confirmation of units that carried this marking would help though.

look forward to some feedback.

regards

MS

Yellow Tail Tips on 109s

Mark,

Yellow tail tips were common during the Battle of Britain on probably all units (theater marking), starting around the middle of August, 1940, and continuing, though less common, into early Sept., 1940. I've done a lot of research on the subject. The fact that it was so commonly used is going to make it difficult to use that as a method to ID the history of the plane during the BoB.

For Ken Merrick - Aachen Bf 109

Ken

Somebody might have given you this information by now, but the early 1970s Bf 109 rebuild/conversion (from a HA 1112 M-1L) which was once housed at the Institut für Leichtbau of the Technische Hochschule Aachen is apparently now property of the Auto + Technik Museum Sinsheim, and it was also displayed at the Technik Museum in Speyer in the early 1990s. (There were even two photos of this Bf 109 while at Speyer in the 4/1991 issue of Jet & Prop).

This rebuilt/converted Bf 109 is labelled a "G-6" but it appears to be a hybrid of sorts. A few skin panels were removed on the port side to allow a view inside, and it features a tall tail, Erla-Haube and reportedly a DB 605 D engine, etc.

I hope this helps. Regards,

Tom

Dear friends,
i am searching for colored pics of german gliders till 1945 like Grunau Baby, Weihe and Habicht. Can anybody help me ?
Also, I am searching a good quality copy of pilot's manual for the Weihe glider (printed before 1945), as I'm the owner of the famous Weihe D-0700, which I am regularly flying and from time to time is on exhibition of the Flugwerft Schleissheim of the Deutsches Museum.

I plan to visit the Augsburg museum on Tuesday, September 03, 2002 in order to see the Messerschmitt Bf109G-6. In order to avoid disappointment, does anyone know for sure that this aircraft is on-site? I believe this aircraft is airworthy and as such, does the airshow circuit.

Hello Dave,

I don´t know about an airworthy Gustav at Augsburg, but rather at Manching near Ingolstadt. The aircraft is on display regularly (e. g. at the Internationale Luftfahrtaus-stellung Berlin) but suffered a mechanical damage this spring, so I think there is no possibility this year to see it taking to the air.
There is another Gustav (G-2), again on static display only, at the Technikmuseum Speyer. I recommend you go spotting this example.
