LW airfield near Nürnburg covered by a lake

A friend of mine told me today about an airfield near Nürnburg that was covered by a lake that was periodically drained for flight operations. He saw mud being scraped off
the main runway in '78.
Can anyone provide further details?

Jason

Hi Jason,

This is propably not exactly what you are looking for
but try the following site:

http://www.almgraph.com/fsa/gabhist.htm

There is a guy that talks about an airfield like this at Gablingen.
This is from the site:

From Ken Manley, 6/3/97.

While stationed in Augsburg, I rented an apartment downtown which was owned by a genteleman who, at the time, was an executive for Messerschmitt. He was a test pilot
during the war flying ME262's out of Gablingen. The 262's were the first jets of the war. He never discussed the tunnels, but I did have long conversations with him about the
history of Gab. He explained to me, that Gab was one of the few airbases never found by the allies. It was camoflaged to look like a lake, with shallow water covering the
grounds and paper mache cows decorating the landscape. The hangars were built with low roofs under the trees. they were still there when I was there.
