Is there a reference that would show the fighter grid in either the Gradnetz or Jagdtrapez, in a map diagram?

...on the JG 26 site ( http://jg26.cjb.net ). Les has the grid drawn on a map of Western Europe (as far east as the longitude of the prewar German border) and has transfered the locations on the end papers of the JG 26 War Diary. I've requested more locations in Germany, Austria, Hungary, etc. and it's my job to provide them. I'm the hold up -- it'll probably be another couple of weeks.

I know this isn't quite your area but perchance do you know where to find grid/quadrant maps for the Eastern Front, especially the North and Central Sectors ???

...as I'm sure you know. I haven't seen one. It's possible that an Ostfront expert such as Christer may have one, and will publish it.

We can only hope. So many loss and action reports make reference to them that it would be helpful.

David-the map is 3'by 4'and I cannot scan it!The area you are interested in is quite small as the map covers mid-Atlantic to Wurzburg and up to northern Norway

Chris, can you give geographical positions for 2687/15W, 5812/? and 5824/? (no suffix given in the reference I have. Did the KuFlGruppen operating over the North Sea use a different set of maps (and thus different sets of co-ordinates) from other Luftwaffe units operating over the same area?

Bill-15W 2687 is off Tynemouth, 5812 is near Ullapool, 5824 near Dornoch. Being coastal, they tended to use the PlQ system

Chris, Thanks for that. 2687 is about where I thought it might be. Very surprised about the 58s - expected them to be in Aberdeen area. Would there be 5812 and 5824 for both East and West?

Bill-Aberdeen is 15W/3384. The east and west does not work as easily as it seems with PlQ-everything east of the Greenwich Meridian is Ost, west is West.15 ost would be over Germany

GR62 Jägermeldenetzverfahren
Wed Aug 7 13:06:55 2002
213.163.193.227
Hello David
I think the reference your are looking (GR62) for comes from what is called the Jägermeldenetzverfahren.
Assuming your searching is in quadrant 15West, then it could be in either one of two place:-
a) 15W South GR62 it is located within 52°23.67’N - 52°25.00’N and 1°30.33’W - 1°30.67’W
b) 15W North GR62 it is located within 57°23.67’N - 57°25.00’N and 1°30.33’W - 1°30.67’W
Please don’t ask for an explanation, as it has got to be one of the most awkward things but there is a good explanation at this web site:-
http://www.stormbirds.com/eagles/research/gradnetz/gradnetz.html
I know that (a) is somewhere in the Midlands so (b) is the best bet, as this lies some 20 miles north east of Aberdeen.
Hope this helps

Hi
ty.
the chart refs I am interested in are 54.44 N - 01.03 W this should put you in Tees Bay UK roughly on a line 218 degrees (38 Degrees from 0. N) 4. to 5 miles N.E. of the River Tees, Fair Way Buoy (the Buoy marking the start of the River channel)

David
(It looks like Chris was trying to answer John's question on GR-62, which David apparently missed seeing.
Regards,
Richard)
