B24 at Ghedi?

I can't help but I may add this to my website if other details should come to the surface.
I heard a similar story from my Grandpa, former Todt worker at Ghedi, who witnessed the landing of a four-engined Allied bomber (I don't know what type) that was straffed the following day by "fighters with a double tailplane" (so he identified P38 fighters).
This hasn't much to do with it but I thought it was of interest.

G.

I don't have the book with me right now to confirm the date etc. but we had this story in "Air War Italy 1944-45" by Beale, D'Amico and Valentini (Airlife 1996).
As I remember it, among our sources were information contributed Jean-Louis Roba (from his study of JG 77) and an eyewitness contacted by Ferdinando D'Amico.

Hi,
the infos from your book are great.
A friend who spoke with eyewitness... told me that the aircrafts which destroyed the B24 were P47... but he was surely wrong... I've seen a photo with a short comment on its back saying that this B24 was forced down by I/77...
I should be able to get a 2000bpi's scan of this two photos soon... and maybe i'll be able to get the serial number out...
Ciao...

As for the sources, I must add also the mission reports and War Diary of the 82nd FG, which detailed the mission of July 14th, 1944 quite well...
Keep us informed about that B-24 photo, since it is clearly an identification which is of some interest to us, thanks.
All the best
