This is likely the most extensive aces list on the web. The site address is:
http://users.accesscomm.ca/magnusfamily/airaces1.htm
Not only does Al cover the Luftwaffe in WW II with at least 2200 listings, but he covers aces of the other combatants both in WW II and in other conflicts. Add to this an extensive use of bibliographic references with links to other sites' lists and this becomes the prime reference for ace information.
Regards,
Richard

German Aces in World War II
Tue Jun 5 01:34:28 2001
Hello, I have recently seen a complete list of Luftwaffe fighter aces in World War II. Truly an amazing list of who's who!!! A lot of these aces lost their lives in World War II, became POW, etc. I have a question regarding these aces. Which Allied Air force (RAF, USAAF or Soviet Air Force) claimed the most German aces? Although this question may be hard to answer for anyone, is there an assumption here? Could it be the RAF, one of the reasons being the fact that Britain was at war with Germany much longer than either Russia or America.
Please help here,
Stefan

List of aces?

Stefan:
I would like to know where you found a "complete" list of German Aces? To my knowledge this did not exist. It would certainly be nice if it did.

This list is probably the most comprehensive...

Hi,
I would recommend this Luftwaffe Aces List ( http://www.ww2.dk/misc/lwace2.txt ) by Jim Perry. It is very comprehensive, and has extra details like awards, units, the fate of the pilot etc. A very handy resource.
Cheers,
Andrew A.

Unfortunately, Mike Holm has been very busy and hasn't updated it in a while -- there are a lotta new names. Al Magnus has most of the newer stuff - though w/o some of the notes at:

Luftwaffe Aces

I have a book called Messerchmitt Aces by Walter A. Musciano that has a number of the top scoring aces in it. But what I would like to have is a book that contains all or the majority of the luftwaffe pilots. Does anyone know if such a book exists?

The best list available

is at http://users.accesscomm.ca/magnusfamily/airaces1.htm
As I help put much of this together from sources in my library, I think it is quite accurate, though still incomplete. My own list is at 2536 pilots, and I've got a bunch more to add from recent work.

Alfred Günther

Hi All,
According to Don Caldwell's excellent JG26 War Diary Vol II Ofw Alfred Günther joined II/JG26 during Feb43 from flight training and served with 5/6//JG26 until he was KIA 15/6/44.
My query is that he has no claims listed whilst with JG26 in Caldwell's book, but in other lists of German aces he is listed as having 12 kills. If he joined JG26 from training where did he achieve his kills if not with JG26? Did he actually have any kills?
I would be grateful if anyone to clarify this dispcrepancy.

Magnus Ace List

Andy,
I should have spotted this myself. Alfred Günther's name is one of a number of questionable entries in Allen Magnus' list, which is, on the whole, excellent. I have e-mailed Allen, asking about his sources for a number of entries in the Luftwaffe ace list. He said he will respond when he gets the time. I will also provide what I feel are a large number of additions plus spelling and other corrections.
My feeling at this time is that Alfred Günther was somehow confused with Joachim Günther, who is also on the list and claimed 11 victories with JG 26 (Ref: Caldwell.) You might try e-mailing Allen yourself, via his website, to see if you can find out his sourse. Please let me know if you hear from him.
Regards,
Tom

Hi Tom,
I came to the same conclusion as you ie that Alfred Günther has some how been confused with Joachim Günther.
As you say Allen Magnus' lists are generally excellent.
