A question RE: Petr Kacha's Luftwaffe site
Wed Feb 21 05:38:44 2001
Hiya guys:
I just looked at the remodeled Luftwaffe Ace site by Petr(Peter? Petr?) Kacha; what happened to all the individual biographies and (partial, at least)victory lists for the aces?
It was a killer resource! Are there plans to reload these bits of info??

Does anyone know if Experte Major Hermann Staiger is still alive or when he passed away? Also, is there any record of his being shot down during his tour in JG 1 later in
the war after leaving JG 26 and before being assigned to JG 7? What were the cirumstances of the loss -- to fighters, defensive bomber fire etc? Finally, there is a summary
of his career on the "Aces of the Luftwaffe" site, but it's in Czech. I believe that in part it describes how he was shot down during the early stages of the Russian campaign
while serving with JG 51. Does anyone know what it says in more detail? Many Thx.

The Aces site mentioned was originally Aces of the Luftwaffe url http://www/volny.cz/pkacha/ . I understand the site now resides at http://www.luftwaffe.cz/ . The site is undergoing an upgrade and the articles on the original site are being updated and posted on the new site, in English only, as this occurs.

Thx for the detail on the July 1941 incident. Can I assume that "tiefangriffe" means the loss was due to combat with the Red Air Force vice ground fire? I went back to
Kacha's "Aces of the Luftwaffe" site (url already provided by another contributor) and found that the Czech language summary of Staiger's career is no longer available.
Perhaps it will re-appear in English as the very useful site is upgraded.

There were a couple of non-German Axis pilots who scored against P-51s. However, the most they individually claimed were 2 Mustangs, i.e. no small-Axis pilot shot down 3 Mustangs.

Hello,
I am trying to get information over a cousin of my mother, Alex Nitelet, who was in the 609th squadron of RAF and was shot down in august 1941 over Campagne ( France).
I am also looking for information about Karl Borris who apparently shot down my cousin.
Thanks in advance for your help !

Alfred Teumer

Hi
I was updating the victory list of Alfred Teumer's biography that is posted on www.luftwaffe.cz with data from the victory lists provided by Tony Wood. According to the biographical information Teumer was killed on 4 October 1944 while serving with EKo Nowotny in a flying accident. However, the last victory listed by Wood mentions Teumer as having claimed a P-51 on 11 November 1944 with 10./JG 54. Could someone please help clear up this obvious discrepancy? Thanks in advance.
Horrido!

Leo,
That 11 Nov 44 claim for Teumer is clearly wrong. Teumer was Staffelkapitän of 10./JG 54 from July 43 until being wounded in action on 3 Sept 43 (from Obermaier's "Die Ritterkreuzträger der Luftwaffe.") While Tony Wood's lists are a wonderful tool, they are far from error free, this is one of them.

Hi Tom
Thanks for taking the time to help clear this up. I believe you're right. Even Kacha wrote me saying that most likely this was a clerk's error. I suppose that when making those massive victory lists something is bound to go wrong!
Horrido!
