This site is named after the Allied Yankee 44 airfield located in the southernmost part of the Netherlands during the last year of WW II. The site is perhaps most noteworthy for its extensive listing of downed aircraft, both Allied and Luftwaffe, in the tri-border area of The Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany The site address is:

http://www.yankee44.tk

While more heavily emphasizing the Allied side, the site does have sections of Luftwaffe and general interest:

Base Commander

Ron gives a bit about his background.

The Hangar

Several photos of crashed Luftwaffe aircraft, including a Fw 190, Me 109, and Do 17.

Operations

A misnomer, this is a collection of links to both Allied and Luftwaffe history websites. Noteworthy are the many unit specific sites.

Intelligence Hut

Ron and John Manrho are working on a book about Operation Bodenplatte. The following relate to their interest in this operation:

Z-Files

A listing of Z reports of Luftwaffe aircraft downed on 1.1.45.

Photos for identification . These are the same photos as shown in The Hangar.

Folded Wings

This is a detailed chronological listing of aircraft crashes, both Allied and Luftwaffe, in the tri-border area of The Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany from Jan. 3, 1940 to May 15, 1945. The list, requiring Acrobat Reader to view, where available provides the following information for each aircraft:

Date
Type of aircraft
Unit
Serial Number or Werknummer
Location
Country
File No. (probably Ron's filing system)

Bodenplatte

Information on the forthcoming book and request for help.

Richard

Need help identifying FW-190 photo

Hi,

Please check out http://www.yankee44.tk and go to the section "The Hangar". The first picture shows a still smouldering FW-190 in a tree. Picture taken on or around 23 December 1944 at Roetgen on the border between Germany and Belgium. There is possibly a "16" on the fuselage.
Any help appreciated!

Ron

Dear friends,

It is with great sorrow that we have to tell you that Ron Putz is dead. He has passed away, Saturday evening October 11th, after a very short but very serious decease. Meningitis. We, his friends from the Dutch Study Group Airwar 1939-1945, and you, members of the 12 O'Clock High community, have lost a wonderful friend and colleague.
Stationcommander Yankee-44 is no more!

John Manrho and Jaap Woortman

(Ron was only 43 years old. John's announcement on 12 O'Clock High! was met by both shock and condolences. Ron will be missed.

Regards,
Richard)
