Pilot remains...
Mon Nov 20 02:02:29 2000
If a pilot was lost over England during the BoB, or Russia during the war, was he buried in an unmarked grave and that's that?
I can imagine the Russian's would have ZERO interest in doing anything for the German's, but I imagine the Brit's woudl be more than accomadating to a war grave. Proper
identification, personal effcts to family after the war, etc...
If a pilots remain were found in a recently excavated airframe, what excatly is the procedure? Is there a commision for this?
Thanks.
ps - sorry about the death motif in my last few e-mails. Some recent research brought these questions up...

If pilots of the Luftwaffe were recovered with their wreckage after war, they will normaly buried (in the UK) in a cemetery with military honor.
Two places where to get informations :
1.) The Commenwelath War Grave Comission (Link: www.cwgc.com (http://www.cwgc.com) )United Kingdom
2.) Deustcher Kriegsgraberdienst e.V ; Kassel, Germany
Sometimes, recovered remains were brought back into the cemeteries at their hometown in Germany. In that case, the German adress is responsible.

Most airmen who were lost in Great Britain were buried in local cemeteries during the war.In the 1960's most of these remains were re-interred,together with other German
losses (from POW camps etc.) in the Deutsche Soldatenfriedhof at Cannock Chase in the county of Staffordshire, where they remain to this day.I have visited this site and
can say that it is a very dignified final resting place in a well maintained cemetery in a beautiful part of England.
Also,at Folkestone New Cemetery,Hawkinge in Kent there are 47 graves-two of which are engraved Ein Deutsche Soldat. 43 are Luftwaffe airmen. While I don't know
whether the other two(Kurt Sifar and Fritz Arlt)are from the Luftwaffe.

Brookwood Military Cemetery near Woking, London, is 'home' to several Luftwaffe airmen who died during the BoB. It is primarily an American cemetery, but also contains the graves of various nationalities, including German. Again, it is beautifully maintained, a fitting resting place for those brave servicemen who gave their lives for their countries.

Dear friends!
You are right! There are a lot of luftwaffe pilots lies in their planes in russian ground.
My interest is restoring Luftwaffe planes. Now I restore BF-109F4\Z W\nr7504
Fw.Rudolf Berg 7\JG3 who is MIA. Mr. Rudolf Berg was killed in air and he was buried as unknown near Novgorod. I'd like to tell information about his destiny to Germany.
Next year I am going to get Bf-109G6 fron it's crash site in Ukraine. I'll give you more information about killed pilot.

My grandfather was a pilot in The Luftwaffe. He was shot down over England. My mother never knew where he was buried. I would like to find his grave if possible for her. His name was Franz Kreuz. I think the year was 1941. Any help would be greatly appreciated fellows. William.

Who was Otto Buhr?
Tue Jun 17 13:40:13 2003

Hello board,
Buried at a local churchyard in Cornwall, near Newquay, is a German airman called Otto Buhr. The gravestone only gives his date of birth as 25.09.21, and date of death as 29/30.07.42. Is there anyone who knows about his loss, when/where/how etc. I can find no local records.
Thanks in advance.
Andy.
