Troy,
first have a look in other BA/MA freiburg topic to find out what you looking for. Then
wrote a letter to
Militararchiv Freiburg,
Wiesenthalstrasse 10,
79115 Freiburg,
BR-Deutschland.
when you want to visit Freinburg and which kind of RL-document you want to have a look.
You should be early there on 8 o'clock, cause
they need a couple of time to find the documents. If you order early you wast no more time at that day when you are in the archive.
There can you fotocopy the documents, but I don't know the price for each copy yet.
Don't forget a german dictionary, it could be helpful for you.

Alex

Thank you Alex--
I am fairly certain I know what documents that I am looking for. Is there a way that I can request these specific documents and pay for them to be copied and mailed to me since I live in the US and cannot at this time afford a trip overseas?
Thank you,
Troy

Dear Troy,
what kind of documents do you looking for?
The best way is to set a request here in the LWAG forum or in Ruy's 12 o'clock. I belive there is anybody who can help you.
Your main problem is that these documents are in German and you have to translate them

Alex

I believe the information I seek is in Signatur RL 5, which contains 860
folders, of which 506 of these hold thousands of Flak-Abschüßemeldungen.
Specifically, I am looking fo a single report from I./Flak-Rgt.9 "Legion Condor" on 2 July 1944. The unit was based was based in Mostar Yugoslavia at the time.
Thanks--
Troy

Hello Troy.
I am in the same position as you are concerning distance and money located as I am in Perth, Western Australia and if you go to the Thread Titled: 'Bundesarchiv contact information' (reset preferences it is more than 45 days old) you will see how to e-mail for documents. I will post a follow-up concerning the process I have gone through to get data 'remotely' from BA-MA Freiburg in that thread later.
Hope this helps
Kind regards
Mitch

Hi Troy and Mitch,
It will probably be a lot easier (and cheaper) to get the information from The US National Archives, as they have copies of most of the Flak "Abschüss" reports on microfilm.
The reports can be found under T321, roll 60 to 66. Each roll costs about 30$ and contains over a 1000 Flak "Abschüss" reports.

Hi Michael--
I just returned from the National Archives and while there I researched Record Group 242, T-1033 collection. These were original Flak "Abschüss" reports sometimes 6 or more pages long with beautiful maps and diagrams. Unfortunately the day that I was searching for was missing. Would it not be safe to assume that if they do not have a paper original, then they would not have it on microfilm?
Also, since my search is so narrow might it not be more cost effective to pay for some one to look for the document than to buy 6 reels of microfilm. I am not opposed to the microfilm, I have a good collection already, I would just like to go about this search in the most efficient way possible.
Thanks
Troy

I was jus trying to find the thread mentioned by Mitch earlier-- 'Bundesarchiv contact information'and failed. I am not a computer whiz by any means-- I admit it. Anyway I tried setting the prefrences for 60 days and had no luck figuring out how to retrieve that thread. Can someone please give me remedial instructions.
Thanks--
Troy

Dear Troy,
Go to the top of the page and click on preferences. You'll come to a pull down menu that allows you to choose just how many days you want to see topics. Personally, I'm a glutton, so I choose "Show all topics". That way, I don't miss anything. You'll find what Mitch was talking about in this forum.
Regards,
Richard
