E.Albrecht and Obermaier's book help please
Wed Jul 25 18:53:30 2001

I've got a friend that's researching Egon Albrecht for an article in his famous Brazilian Aviation Magazine "Forca Aerea". After all Albrecht was born down here in Brazil !

He wrote a precise one years ago on Martin Drewes(he lives in Brazil) and I had the pleasure to be introduced to him by this friend.

All I've got is Obermaier's "Die RK..." 1966 bilingual edition, which says:

" Egon Albrecht Hauptmann *19.05.1918 Curitiba/Brasilien
RK 22.5.1943 als Oberleutnant nach 15 Luftsiegen und 11 Bodenzerstörungen.
Belonged to 9./ZG76 from 1940 and fought with this unit - renamed 6./SKG210 - from 1941 in Russia. The Knight's Cross was awarded for his outstandings successes against ground targets. He became Kommandeur II./ZG 1(formerly II./SKG210) late in 1943 and successfully led it in the Home Defence, and later(now III./JG76 / IV./JG53) against the Invasion troops.
Killed in action on 25-8-1944 when he, on a return flight, ran into a "Mustang" formation and was shot down. His body was robbed of all possessions by French Maquis.
Total of approximately 25 victories, including several four-engined"

Does Prien's JG53 volumes mention him ?
Aircraft flown and the last fateful one ?
Any kind of help would be extremely welcome...

TIA
Paulo Dario

Probably my posting above caused some misunderstandings about the to-be article's author.

Rectifying my words:

"A friend of mine is trying to 'have' an article about Egon Albrecht published in 'his' Brazilian magazine Forca Aerea.
Particulary I don't care who writes it, since I'm pretty sure that if he decides to publish it, it's worth reading and with precise accounts."

Bf 110D-3 3666 ALBRECHT, Ltn. Egon 4. ZG 1 19-Dec-42 Bauchlandung. Ru§land Gen.Qu.6.Abt. (mfm #8)-Vol.13 Krasnodar 80% H (There may be more info on this machine in the new ZG 1 book)

Bf 109G-14 460593 ALBRECHT, Hptm. Egon 25 Stab III. JG 76 schwarze 21 + | 25-Aug-44 Kommandeur. KIA after Luftkampf with P-38s. FSA too low. RK FR Frappé, La LW face au débarquement allié, p.299, 332; Obermaier p.81 East of St. Claude/Creil 100% F

I think III./JG 76 became, or was incorporated into IV./JG 53 after Albrecht's death. A year or so ago the LW Verband had an article of on Albrecht.

Hi Jim, just a question. In your quotation for Egon Albrecht´s death, you shows he being killed by P-38. In the mentioned books I do not find any confirmation about that. Yes some planes were shot down by P-38 but Egon was returning home. A discussion at Luftwaffe Verband could not provide a conclusive match for Egon victor. I´ll try to contact John Vasco this week to see whether he discovered any new info on him.

There wasn't a WNr. 27803 - there only some 180 or so machines in that series which appears to end at 27183.

Hello Jim,

Could you please tell me what your remark 'not reported' in your answer means: not reported in the mfm's or the Verlustmeldungen ?

According to my 'Bf110-File' as I call it, I found another mentioning of the Bf110 (Wnr.2430) in the logbook of (Uffz.?) Reiter from the 7./NJG 3: on 12-5-1943 he flew this plane in order to practice 'Luftschiessen'. God, I love those logbooks for all the info available!

Best wishes, Marcel Hogenhuis

I think that's in the location column. Means location not reported -- sometimes noted in the loss data, in Deutsch of course!!

For Jim P.:
The W.Nr. 460 593 (or the loss date) from the a/c of Hptm. Egon Albrecht in Obermaier's book can't be right. The acceptance flight date by BAL was the 30.08.1944, the loss date 25.08.1944. It's impossible that an a/c was shot down 5 days before it was accepted by BAL.

For s.f.polyak:
On the site www.volny.cz/plarchiv/Stranky/Index2.html (http://www.volny.cz/plarchiv/Stranky/Index2.html) you can find more informations and photos about the crash of the Ju 52 W.Nr.6820 in Czech territory.
