Hello all,
I'm Italian and I can read only a little German, so I've many problems with the site www.bundesarchiv.de (http://www.bundesarchiv.de) that many of you have nominated frequently.
Can somebody explain to me what can I find in this site?
Can somebody explain me how can I use this site for some researches?
Thank in advance
Max

Dear "Zamax"!
Just to answer your question, I have copied the English translation of Bundesarchivīs website and posted it here. Unfortunately most of the following informations are in German only. But:
As a historian and German alike I would like to offer you some help (within my limited time-table!). So, what exactly do you need to know?
Regards
Michael
Here we go:
"Welcome to the Bundesarchiv`s web-site
The Bundesarchiv receives documents that are created by central authorities of the Deutscher Bund (1815-1866), the Reich (1867/71-1945), the zones of occupation (1945-1949), the German Democratic Republic (1949-1990) and the Federal Republic of Germany (since 1949).
It is within the Bundesarchiv`s responsibility to decide upon the permanent value of the documents, to describe, arrange and classify them appropriately, to make them accessible and to preserve them. Furthermore, the archival documents are exploited for scholarly publications and exhibitions. Subject to the Law on the Preservation and Use of Federal Archival Documents the archival material is accessible to everybody for inspection and use.
The Bundesarchiv collects papers of private persons as well as records of political parties, associations and societies of national importance. At the same time the Bundesarchiv serves as German film archives.
Our Internet-presentation intends to provide you with information about the Bundesarchiv`s divisions, its locations and its history. It should to help you to prepare the use of archival material. We regularly update the sections "Aktuelles" and "Veranstaltungen" which contain information on what's new and give dates of events.
The main part of the Internet-presentation is the structured list of holdings in which you can make your research. Thus it helps you to direct your inquiry to the division in charge. A list of publications and links to other archival institutions complete the web-site.
Of course, you may contact us via e-mail. We wish you a pleasant and informative visit."

I want to thank you for this kind of offer than not many people would have done, but I don't want to steal some important time to a historian.
Since my researches are so various (KG and NJG but fighter pilots and minor units too) but focused on the loss lists, I would be grateful if you would simply tell me those things:
- is there any way to verify in the site e.g. "the bio of Fw Hermann Wilms of 4/KG26" or "the history of 1(H)/41"?
- is there a way to pay for some documents (microfiches, copies....)?
- which is the best way for me to find the greatest number of German unit's loss list that is possible?
Thank you very much
Max
P.S: Zamax is the contraction of my surname and name
P.S.S: I would be hapy if my little help would be useful to you

Document ordering information can be found in the topic "KTB info at the BA/MA - Freiburg" on the "Archives in Germany: Bundesarchiv" forum.
