Hello,
The above mentioned JG 3 pilot was lost on 12. 12. 1942 in "Luftkampf" with Pe-2. Does anybody know any further details about his loss (such as location, Staffel, Werk-nummer of his machine and tactical code)? Many thanks in advance for any help.

I have just acquired a set of documents for a pilot (Ofw. Franz Josef Birnbaum) who was KIA with 10.(Pz)S.G.9, flying a Hs 129. He was killed on the 5 April 1944, after having flown over 60 combat missions (as his documents include Frontflugspange silver 24 March 1944). He received his Flugzeugfuehrerabzeichen 20 May 1942. He was promoted to Fw. while at Fl.Gast (Eis) 2 December 1940(does anyone know what this means?)and to Ofw. while with 9./Zerstoererschule (Jan 1943). It is quite a comprehensive and interesting list of documents ranging from some DLV & NSFK items to the war time documents up to EK1 which was awarded 20 April 1944, posthumously.
Would anyone know about the circumstances of his death and any other information about this pilot including his final tally of tank kills?
Many thanks
Colin

I think I know the answer but in his intelligence debrief, he claims to have shot down a number of ac and been shot down at least twice both with I/JG 2 and II/JG 77. It is true that he was an accomplished pilot as he was awarded the DKiG but can anyone find any substance to what he was 'spinning' his debriefers?

Hallo,
Read from an article about Army General Gerhard von Schwerin mentioned that he had a relative who was in Luftwaffe Kampfflieger and won the Knight's Cross before his death at 1940.
Does anyone know which unit did Albert von Schwerin fly with?
