Hi, I'm researching the history of Sandhofen Airfield. I wounder how did the allies come up with codes for the airfields, for example Y79???
And does anyone know where to get the old bombing orders for the bombing of gernan airfields??

Thank you very much

Dirk Schulz

Hi Dirk,

As the British advanced out of Normandy they used the sequence B.XXX where XXX was a sequential number.

The Americans from Normandy used A.XXX

The British/American forces from South of France/Italy used Y.XXX

Ross

Hello,

on the backside of a photo taken by a US GI at the end of WWII in Germany there is written :" taken at R-75 Munich "... I think that this photo was taken at Schleissheim... Was R-75 an allied designation for Schleissheim???

Best regards...
Gianpiero
