Much discussion has been held about the PRO on 12 O'clock High!, but very little mentioned about the holdings at the Imperial War Museum. Would the experts out there care to comment on these?

IWM, Dep. of Documents. Luftwaffe Losses 1939-1945 Vol.1 till.24.
Ger/MISC/MCR/18 Luftwaffe Losses.
Available on microfilm on 12 reels.
If I remember well over $500 for the total set 10 years ago and some bad copies!
The info is comparable(the same?) with the info in BA-MA.

Luftwaffe Quartermasters Losses - Mediterranean
Wed Jun 21 17:24:37 2000

I would like to get in contact with a specialist in the Mediterranean Theatre of Ops for WW2. Luftwaffe side.
Is there anybody who had computerized the Luftwaffe Quartermaster Losses for the Mediterranean sector. If positive, would you communicate with me. Upon a
message, I can let you have my E-mail address.

Also, how can I order the microfilms regarding those Luftwaffe Quartermaster Losses. Price? I would need them badly for a book, scheduled to be published next year,
regarding the 500 Canadian fighter pilots who have served in North Africa and the Western Desert during WW2.

Thanks in advance, Michel Lavigne

Wrong Johan Schuurman, it was IWM and not PRO.
Besides Biblio Verlag has announced that they will publish the Luftwaffe Losses on CD-ROM. Price DM890.

The Imperial War Museum in London (www.iwm.org) has 12 reels of microfilm that are missing all of 1944, January 1945 (except a couple of days' reports), some of March
and all of April 1945. The 1943 reels include losses among Luftwaffe ground troops, paratroops, Flak units etc.

They can be bought but I don't know a current price. The Department of Documents reference is GER/MISC/18.

The reels I've looked at (mainly the 1945 material) don't seem to include flying school losses but do have Ergaenzungs and ferry units. THey do have Nachtschlachtgruppen
and Störkampfstaffeln but from what I've seen of 1943 they lost few aircraft at that time. Losses are far higher in 1945 i nthe west.

was NJG units and Kommandos listed?
Thu Jan 11 01:07:28 2001

I am very interested in losses listed for Kommando Welter and 10./NJG 11 during 1945. Did you note if they were included? Additionally, I know several people doing
research on JG 300 for the late summer/fall of 1944, but apparently those records are not among these..?

Thanks in advance.

Have not seen any yet, but then I'm just getting started. Have seen NJG 11 in the GQM reports, of course this being the case then 1944 is missing. And remember these
'Schulen' and other reports only go thru to Sept. 44. Check the Balss books for NJG 11. Kdo. Welter -- well, I'm rather doubtful unless they're from before July 44. Have
already recorded almost all for mid-July thru Sept.

The losses from Me 262 units have all been published by Smith and Creek in "Jet Planes of the Third Reich" and subsequent works.

You might find the odd thing from JG 300 in 1944 among the occasional pages of updates and corrections that are included (eg. when they learned that a missing pilot was
in fact a p/w) but it'd be a long shot, I think. What happened to the 1944 material is one those FAQs with no definite answer, I think.

There are two comprehensive but incomplete Luftwaffe loss lists available without too much trouble. First is the QM list which covers all operational units, with the
information you indicated you were looking for. It is complete from 1940-43 and some parts of 1945. I believe it is available from IWM on microfilm, cost last time I heard
around $1000 USA. The other list includes the training, test and other misc. units and is available on microfiche from the BA. My copy cost less than $100 USA. This list is
complete from 1940-Sept 1944. There are other sources that cover some of the missing information, but these are the main documents.

Fw. Vinke's demise
Thu Apr 11 12:51:07 2002
193.78.119.38

On 26 feb '44, IV./NJG1 (at that time) topgun (54 kills) Fw. Vinke was shot down over the Channel by RAF fighters while searching for one of his comrads. The comrad he was searching for was a certain Lt.Krupinski (related to Walter perhaps?) after he went missing during a sortie over the Northsea.

Apparently Vinke was in the company of another Bf-110 piloted by Lt. Rolland who managed to escape the RAF fighters.

Which squadron was involved with this interception? Did any RAF fighter pilots claim a Bf-110 Northwest of Dunkirk this day.

Thanks and regards

Ivo

Phil Butler's book has a small illustration showing AM3 on display in Hyde Park September 1945. German markings have been re-applied over the RAF markings. No codes remain.

This is credited to the R.S. Punnett collection.

Gebhard Aders' 'History of the German Nightfighter Force' has another small picture showing AM3 at Farnborough with an RAF roundel on the fuselage side and the 'MN' codes still visible.

This is credited to the Imperial War Museum.
