The following message from Larry deZeng, taken from a thread on 12 O'Clock High!, provides useful guidance in trying to obtain local historical information within Germany:

Tom -

Over the course of its existence, there were hundreds of Luftwaffe units stationed at Bayreuth-Bindlach when you include all of the servicing, support, supply, administrative, guard, antiaircraft, etc., units. They came and went. The turnover was very large. Since a definitive list of these units does not exist, you will first need to specify the date or dates that you are interested in. Then, I suggest you do a google.com search for the website for Stadt Bayreuth, click on their e-mail or "contact us" link, and then ask the Stadtarchivar for help with your questions. It is possible that some local enthusiasts have written an unpublished history of Flugplatz Bindlach and the original or a copy may be on file with the Stadtarchivar. This is very often the case in Germany.

Good luck!

L.
