Hello,

Lt. Heinz Steinicke (approx. 11 kills), Staffelführer of 10./JG 51 was shot down and killed in Luftkampf east of Heiligenbeil on 19.2.1945. Does anybody know any loss data about his aircraft (such as version, Werknummer and tactical code, percentage of damage)? Many thanks in advance for any help.

Greetings!

Does anybody know what type of fighter(Bf-109 or Fw-190) was flown by Oblt.Heinz Venth sk.10/JG51 on August 16, 1944, when he was shot down and reported missing? Any details of his last sortie will be appreciated (especially, was he shot down by enemy fighters or not).

Thanks in advance.

I have Heinz Venth's Wehrpass if you need any information from this. Contact me if you do. Do you know if there are any photographs around of him ? Of course there is one in the Wehrpass but do you know of any others ? I know this may be a stupid question but was the place he went missing in Poland ?

Best Regards,

andy

The correct spelling should be Zloczow (Z³oczów), now it's Zolochiv. Why Russland? It's not even close to!

Poland or Belorussia?

Hallo Franek!

Nowadays Zloczow is a Polish town. Was it in the territory of Belorussia in 1944? I`am asking because in one of our books I`ve met the short biography of H.Venth, telling that he was shot down in the area of Zloczow in Belorussia?!

Best regards.

Man, do realize how little of my database I'd actually have done if I had to pinpoint the geographical location of all these little villages and hamlets across Europe!! :))

(The above was in response to Franek Grabowski's question of why Russland.

How would you feel being listed as living in Mexico or Puerto Rico? ;)
Well over 100 000 000 people live in this part of Europe and they not neccessarily have fond memories of Russia/Soviet Union. Germans called that Ost Front and I think it's most proper name.
BTW
I understand that your 109 data is to be 'published' at 109 liar. I strongly suggest to make some kind of interface allowing to post comments to particular losses. There's plenty of such errors already in the German documents not mentioning further typos.
Cheers

Hi Franek,

Since i'm responsible for the DB creation i can answer your question : yes it will be possible to add comments for a specific loss.

Jim could you contact me offboard please?
Indeed I need to discuss with you about the Database update process.

Cheers,
Olivier

coming from Franek. The Russland thing was a carry on from the individual who actually started the database -- Ost Front would probably be better. Yes, 'my' 109 collection is to be posted at the Lair - see Olivier's post below. He's doing the actual work to get this thing on line. I, for one, definitely look forward for updates from the community.

(Again, in response to Franek's comments.

Richard)

Looking forward to it. Don't you think it would be a good idea to keep the original place reference and to add a separate new one as well as perhaps geographical coordinates?
BTW
Would you like an updated 1939 claim chart (not finished - no Zertoerers)? If so drop me an email.

That photo may not be Ehrler's aircraft, rather the gelb 3 of Rudolf Müller. That particular aircraft was wnr13904 and had the factory code (possibly, as per the source I am reading) EN+EL.

Don!
You're right! The plane I supposed to be a yellow 12 it's not this one!
I have a book about JG5 Eismeer (wyd.Kagero) written by M.Murawski and there are three photos of white mottled G2. All are signed - H.Ehler's yellow 12. But when I compared two shots of cockpit (12 visible) and tail (victories signs) with that of plane with stamm visible I realized that shape and placing of RLM 70 (if that colour is correct?) mottles differ!

But returnig to Ehler's 12. Does that plane have a R6 modification and non-removed main gear covers?
And I still wonder if it had the stammkenziehen non-overpainted?

thank you!
Kuba

I don't have the booklet, my impression was it was shortened but not updated Motorbuch. However check the old Militaria article on Rudi Mueller, there were several photos of his aircraft, coming IIRC from Bernd Barbas' archive.

Rudi Mueller was shot during escape attempt or it's only what Soviet papers say. I think I've got some more details but where?
BTW
Wasn't he downed in combat with Airacobras? I just remember the name of possible viktor, Bokij.
