Jim,
you're right: 643.938. This is from the original WASt-report. Sometimes my fingers are quicker than my brain :-).
Heckes was hit in the engine from the rear gunner of a Pe-2 he attacked and subsequently rammed his enemy.

Charles,
I thank you for your response to my inquiry. I was told by Herr Heckes that he attacked a Lagg 5 that flew over his airfield shortly after takeoff, and he assumed a Lagg 5 had rammed his FW-190 during the same encounter. He mentions the Soviet fighters were escorting IL-2, but does not mention Pe-2 being invovled.
Thank You,

Does anybody know what were the losses of II./JG 5 on 4 August 1944? It seems that three pilots (Ofhr. Jühnemann, Uffz. Moses, Uffz. Drägert) were either killed or MIA, but was there any wounded?
Thanks in advance

Hello,
Ive got a relative who was in the Luftwaffe in WWII.
He joined the Luftwaffe in the late 20th and was with Legion Condor in Spain. In the beginning WWII he must have been Stuka Fighter may be as Commodore or such rank.
He changed to the RLM later. After the war he joined the Bundeswehr Luftwaffe and was in the early 60's General, based on Butzweilerhof / Cologene. His Name was Arthur Paul.
Who has something about this guy, or has some idea where to search for informations

Hello all,
Fw. Herbert Gumprecht, 11./JG 2 pilot with at least 14 victory claims, has been shot down and killed on 16.8.1943 in Conches area. Does anybody know any further details about his loss (such as WNr., subtype, tactical code...)? Also, does anybody know which allied unit was responsible for Gumprecht´s death (if I recall correctly, Don Caldwell mentiones JG 2 tussles with 4th FG USAAF in his JG 26 War Diary - could it be this unit?)?. Many thanks in advance for any help.

Hello Ota,
according to WASt Ofw. Gumprecht was shot down after contact with 60 - 80 Boeing-Fortress II 8 km NE of Conches.
He flew a Bf 109 G-6, WNr. 18.806, no tactical number reported.
11./JG 2 was subordinated to I./JG 2 during that time. This group lost at least three other pilots S of Nantes and near Le Bourget. The WASt-reports for this pilots explicitly mention combat with BF II a n d Thunderbolts. For this reason I assume, that Gumprecht was shot down by a bomber-crew.

Hi Charles
RAF claims for the 16th were 3-0-5 in the following areas :-
611sqn 1-0-1 Fw190s Bernay, 308 sqn 1-Fw190 dam Bernay,
W/C Chadburn 1-Fw190 dam Beaumont-le-Roger, 331 sqn 1-0-1 Abbeville, 129sqn 1- Fw190 dam Eecloo & 124sqn 1- Me109 over I of Wight.
I would say that Gumprechts was shot down by the Americans & that the place Conches must be the one near Paris. I have I think all JG2's losses for the 16-8-43 (9-Fw190s & 4-Bf109s ?)but there are some gaps, can you help with some info ?
Best Wishes
David

David,
16.8.43 certainly was no lucky day for JG Richthofen.
15 pilots killed or wounded and 21 a/c lost or damaged
was a heavy blow and clearly points out, what difficulties German Luftwaffe had already in 1943 fighting day-bombers protected by fighters. This is what I found:
