Hello,I look for any information about the use of the DINARD PLEURTUIT airfield (westwards from ST MALO)during the WW2 especially from the battle of FRANCE until the liberation by the 8th and 83th US INF DIV .

I look for veterans reports from both side, soldiers, seamen or crewmen .I had some data but nothing about the units deployed on this airfield.

I am ready to exchange all my data : maps, books, copies, websites and so on.

TIA

I too am looking for information about the military activity at this airfield during WW2.

My uncle and his crew were lost on a mission to the Dinard-Pleurtuit airfield on June 11, 1944. There was heavy overcast, and the results were not known at that time. Another mission was flown to the airfield on June 13, 1944; shortly after that, the area was in Allied hands.

I'd like to know what Luftwaffe units were based there, damage from the raids, and where the units went after the invasion.

Hello,
you could find a begining of answer in the history of the 121st US INF RGT. According my informations, the crash occured the August, 9th in the late afternoon ; after a succesful blood plasma drop, two artillery liaison planes locked wings and crashed in flames. Both crew were killed.
Check : www.militaria.com/8th/121inf
I don't know the type and the serial of the planes ; if you have this data or a photo , it will be a huge information.
I anm still looking on the web for the accurated location of the crash.

One relative is looking for more accurated informations about 1st. Lt Earl E. Schmidt, 56th Field Artillery Battalion. Check : www.valortours.com

About the use of this airfielf during the WW2, it's a bit confuse because of the lack of accurated data.
the following german units were based on this airfiled :Küstenfliegergruppe 106 ; Sturzkampfgeschwader 2;
Kampfgeschwader 27, 28, 6; Nahaufklärungsgruppe 13 is likely said to be the last Luftwaffe unit deployed in PLEURTUIT in JULY,44.

Check :www.feldgrau.com ; www.ww2.dk ;

I hope this data will be useful. I know some websites around the following subject : " Fights for the liberation of DINARD PLUERTUIT area" . If you look for data about the Atlantik Wall, the 8th and 83th US INF DIV, 6th ARM div, please let me know.
