POW camps & interrogation centres
Fri Nov 10 18:48:48 2000

I am researching the capture, interrogation, imprisonment and eventual escape back to their own country of individual allied soldiers, sailors and airmen. I have read most of
the well known books on individual efforts but would be interested in hearing of other less well known accounts that I might not have read.

In particular, however, I wonder if anyone has detailed information on, or has a father/grandfather who was involved in, interrogation centres and POW camps in Germany or
the occupied countries.

I would also be interested in knowing the precise locations of interrogation centres and POW camps, and the locations of Luftwaffe airfields since many shot down RAF,
RCAF and USAAF aircrews were taken to these for initial debriefing and interrogation.

Many thanks in anticipation

Dulag Luft West at Wetzlar

Look at "Dulag Luft Wetzlar im Zweiten Weltkrieg und sein Kommandant Oberstleutnant Otto Becker" Ingolstadt 1985.
The Luftwaffe used two Dulag Luft, one West for the anglo-american Airforce and one Dulag Ost for the russian airmen.
After Dulag Luft Oberursel was destroyed by an RAF Airraid against Frankfurt 22./23.März 1944, Dulag Wetzlar open at Mai 1944. There where ca. 80 officers for
interrogations. It was part of "Führungsstab der Luftwaffe I c - Fremde Luftwaffen Ost und West".
After the war the camp was also used as an medical camp by the US-Army and at the gate was a sign with lettering "Is your future dripping away - Use a Rubber. Take a
PRO"

The DULAG Luft at Wetzlar was in the Northwest direction of the city.
Today, parts of the village of Dálheim were placed on this former German Miltary Barack area (original used as serch light training camp).
Photos of the camp (Air Recc.) could be find at England and in the States.
The US National Archiv is holding also a 16 mm film of the capturing of the DULAG when the US Ground Forces arrived.

(Greetings to Husar, good knowledge, would like to know from where you are?)
