I would like to know about Techinischer Offizier(TO) detail.

1.What is the main job ofTO?
2.Relation to Geschwader leader or Gruppe leader.
3.Necessary carrier to become TO.
Did it need to finish technical school or not?
4.What was normal military rank of TO?
Were TO belonged to Geschwader and TO belonged to Gruppe
equal rank or not?
5.Did they have special ralation to Erprobungsstelle
Rechlin, Generalstab or Inspector?
6.Reference Book

If some of them become clear it can help me very much.
Best Regards,

Hello !

From my Bundeswehr-time in a tank-battallion, I think, I can give you some answers to your questions. I'm quiete sure, that the main responsibilities of a TO are comparable to those of a WW II Luftwaffe Technischer Offizier (TO) under some considerations of minor importance between WW II Luftwaffe TO's to the standarized NATO Air-forces procedure.

1): The main job of a TO is the responsibilty of technical clearance the main fighting equipment and the other material of the battallion

Question No. 2:
The relationship was to the Gruppe-Leader, as they were the closest military organisation. If the Gruppe was split up and assigned to other units, the host organisation's TO took care for the maintenance of the Squadrons aircraft.

Question No. 3: The nessassary carreer was a studium on mechanical engineering. It's today essential, but in WW II times, I have no idea of the requirement regulations.

Question No. 4: The rank was a Major, but could also be a 1st Lt or a Captain. The time of serving and other circumstances powered his promotion.

Question No. 5: Nearly not. They may have had a short visit to this place to have a glue, what is going on there. But their mayor task is keeping the equipment of their unit in order. So, the have been well provided with the current technichal orders of the Wehrmacht and Luftwaffe.

Question No. 6:

I have no idea.

All the best,

Horst Weber
