Lost Ju 52/Ju 52 claims on 22 April, 1945

On this day in early hours(at dawn), some Hungarian airmen stolen a German Ju 52 in Berlin-Gatow airport and tried to flew to England with this plane, but they never arrived and went missing (probably the plane was downed by Allied fighters). Anybody knows the Allied Ju 52 claims in this day (areas, etc)?

Thanks in advance,

Csaba

Hello Csaba,

I am not specialized in Allied combat, but this perhaps can help you for futher research:

P/O Patrick and W/O Concannon from 488 Sq. 2nd TAF RAF claimed a Ju 52 shot down in Magdeburg-area 22.4.45 at 0530 hours. Perhaps some researches from the "andere Feldpostnummer" have more detailed infos.

Thanks, Charles.

Yes, maybe they doomed this plane. I'll try to find some further info. This squadron flew with Spitfires?

Hi Csaba:

488 Sqn. flew Mosquitos. The claim for the Ju 52 was made by a crew flying a Mk.30 night fighter.

Cheers,

Mark
