The Messerschmitt Me 109 website, by Andreas Goldmann, covers the history of Prof. Messerschmitt; the Me 109 history, variants, armament, engines, and aces who flew the Me 109; and Spanish volunteers. There is a nice photo gallery, including photos of preserved aircraft. Its connection here to the USA is that Me 109G-10 (black 2) has been sold to a US owner. The site address is:

The superb site Hikoki: 46, by Edwin M. Dyer, III, is subtitled Experimental Jet, Rocket, & Prop Aircraft of the I.J.N. & I.J.A.. It covers in great depth the exotic and advanced aircraft Japan sought to field in the waning weeks of the war. I have to admit I bias toward an interest in these aircraft. Some have roots in German designs, while others were purely of Japanese origin.
The introductory page to the site is:
http://www.pelzigplatz.f2s.com/main.html
However, it is best to go to the index page (which contains the same introductory remarks) to actually get access to the site, itself, either at:
http://www.pelzigplatz.f2s.com/
or:
http://www.pelzigplatz.f2s.com/index.html
Again, I'm going to be selective in commenting only on those non-piston engined aircraft of Japanese origin or any Luftwaffe aircraft that Ed has on his site. He has much more than this, for those that are interested. I have, at least listed them. With that caveat, the sections are:
Navy Aircraft
<U>Kawanishi Baika</U> - With heritage from the piloted German V-1, the Fi 103, an excellent history of both plus the mention of the Me 328 is given, along with photos and color profiles.
<U>Mitsubishi J8M Shusui</U> - Closely based on the Me 163, a cross history of the two aircraft are given along with photos. There are 5 color photos of the Shusui in the Planes of Fame museum in Chino, CA, and a link to 4 excellent color computer graphic renditions of the Shusui. A second Shusui was found in a cave in Japan and there is a link to an article about this with 6 color photos and a drawing.
<U>Mizuno Shinryu</U> - A rocket powered special attack glider. The functional purpose of the rockets seems in doubt. Ed has provided an interesting article on this enigmatic aircraft, whose mission seems similar to other powered, manned bombs. Color drawings and a 4-view plan are provided.
<U>Nakajima Kikka</U> - Having a similar configuration to the Me 262, this aircraft is only loosely related to it. Ed presents an interesting interweaving tale of the history of the two aircraft. Two color drawings, 9 b&w photos, 1 3-view drawing, and 1 table cross comparing with the Me 262. There are also 1 color photo of a Kikka and 2 of its Ne 20 engine at the NASM Garber Facility in Silver Hill, MD. A link to another related site is provided.
<U>Yokosuka MXY7 Ohka Model 22, Model 33, Model 43 series, and Model 53</U> - Article on a series of manned, powered bombs. Eight b&w photos; side view line drawings of Models 11, 22, & 43 K-1 KAI, 3-view line & color drawings of Model 22; 1 color profile of Model 43 K-1 KAI; and table of specifications of Models 22 & 43B. Link to related website.
Propeller driven aircraft covered are:
Kyushu J7W Shinden
Mitsubishi J4M1 Senden
Nakajima G10N1 Fugaku
Yokosuka R2Y Keiun
Army Aircraft
<U>Nakajima Ki-201 Karyu</U> - Very close approximation to the Me 262. Article with 1 color drawing, 1 b&w profile, 1 3-view line drawing, 1 fictionalized license-built Me 262 color profile, and table cross comparing Me 262, Kikka, and Ki-201.
<U>Rikugun Ki-202 Shusui-Kai</U> - Article on the Army's version of the Me 163. Three-view line drawing and table cross comparing the Me 163, J8M1, and Ki-202.
Propeller driven aircraft covered are:
Kawasaki Ki-64
Kawasaki Ki-78
Kawasaki Ki-91
Mansyu Ki-98
Mitsubishi Ki-67 Hiryu Variants ( Ki-67-I KAI, Ki-67 Sakura-dan, Ki-67 long range ground attacker, Ki-109 )
Mitsubishi Ki-73
Tachikawa Ki-94
Ki-115 Tsurugi
Rikugun Ki-93
Other Aircraft
<U>Junkers Ju488</U> - Article with isometric and 3-view line drawing. Japanese connection was that license was offered to the Japanese, but rejected.

Refurbished Fw-190 on Wings or Discovery Channel?
Sat Mar 17 15:21:15 2001
I remember seeing on either the Discovery Channel or on the Wings channel about a Fw-190 that was refurbished, and when the aircraft was finished, they surprised the original pilot by bringing him in to view his aircraft. He was quite emotional about it, sitting in the cockpit after his walk around, remembering all the times he flew in it.
My question is: Who was the pilot? I don't remember who they said it was. Does any one know?
Thanks!

The things visible in this site are unbelievable!
There are enough tanks and guns and paraphernalia to fill a museum!
Would it be possible to have more photos of the Fw 190? It seems too good to be true.
The Il 2 is nice as well.
What about the frozen corpse of a hurricane pilot? Grim, to say the least.
Too bad that photo is not covered by anything else, while the Focke Wulf disappears almost immediately.

St. Petersburg's Treasure Hunter is the website of the St. Petersburg's Historical Exploration Society. The current Chairman of the Board is Valerij V. Balakhanov. Within the website is information on archives and archive investigation techniques to use in Russia. The website has essentially 3 addresses:
1. General in Russian language:
http://klad.hobby.ru/index.htm
2. General in English language:
http://klad.hobby.ru/english.htm
3. Military in Russian language:
http://klad.hobby.ru/milarch.htm
Even if you go into the Russian language areas, there is an English translator available for most of the pages. I'm having trouble with my computer in Internet Explorer and ran into repeated script errors when I attempted to use the translators on the individual pages. If I kept at it long enough, I had to reboot to make things function again.
You will note that the 1st option has 17 listings and the other two have 16 listings. Some are repeats, some are not, making this a very difficult site to summarize. The first option, http://klad.hobby.ru/index.htm, general in Russian language, has the following subjects:
1. About Us - Information about the St. Petersburg's Historical Exploration Society.
2. Site News - Site updates
3. Photogallery - just general photos about digging.
4. Finds - non-military items like coins.
5. About searching
6. Home page - clicking on this brings you to http://klad.hobby.ru/milarch.htm, military in Russian language. Here, you can click on an English language version, which brings you to http://klad.hobby.ru/english.htm, actually general in the English language.
7. Historical maps - these really are maps of olden times.
8. Information on metal artifacts, coin collecting, and metal restoration.
9. List of books on treasure hunting.
10. List of books in Russian on treasure hunting.
11. Site awards.
12. Links page.
13. Sell & buy page.
14. Discussion forum.
15. Guestbook - Letters about the site received from readers.
16. Form to e-mail the site, presumably to be posted under 15.
17. Online-Translator - If you can't get your computer to copy Russian text, you'll find this useless.
Okay, now on to option 2, the general version in English. This is listed as follows:
1. About Us - Same as above.
2. Site news - Same as above.
3. Questionaire - Apparently intended for foreigners to inquire about conducting searches.
4. Photogallery - Same as above.
5. Finds - Same as above.
6. Military Archeology - This takes you to the military in Russian language option (see below).
7. Historical maps - Same as above.
8. Books - English language books on treasure hunting.
9. Live Cam.
10. Our awards - Same as above.
11. Links - Same as above.
12. Auction - Same as above.
13. Forum - Same as above.
14. Guestbook - Same as above.
15. E-mail - Same as above.
16. Online-Translator - Same as above.
Some of the above pages are probably common with the military in Russian language option, that is, are in Russian with a local translation engine.
Okay, now on to the military in Russian language option:
http://klad.hobby.ru/milarch.htm
1. Clicking on this brings you to the general in Russian language option.
2. Site News - Same as above.
3. Coverage of exhumation and reburying of bodies. Eight color photos. Also, a section entitled "Search Information of St. Petersburg", which includes a list of key words and their meanings.
4. Three articles. One is of interest:

Complete Fw 190 in Russian wood
Mon Apr 2 11:33:03 2001
S.M. Fochuk, in his Saturday post, speaks of a very interesting (to say the least!) Russian site: http://klad.hobby.ru/milarch.htm
that amid many other mirabilia (and horribilia) shows some photos of an almost complete white painted Fw 190. As far as it can be seen, there is just some fabric missing from the ailerons and a few dents here and there, but the structure seems indeed sound, as if it belly landed just a few minutes before!
Does anybody know about this particular plane? This photos are too nice to be true, could they be a fake?

Even I am disappointed.
It is Fw190 A-5 W.Nr1227 'White A' DG+HO of 4./JG54 lost on the 17th July 1943. I met Rupert Wilbraham a few years ago and he had about 200 photos of the recovery (it was he that brought it out). It is the same aircraft.

OK, Mark:
If the photos are indeed 1227, then the plate shown in the photo is from another aircraft, as it is clearly not a WNr. ending with a "7". So, we still do not know what it is.

John
not sure of the plate or part.
Both 1520 and 1220 were sister ships of 1227. 1520 was also coded White D and was literally next door to 1227. Possibly parts changed over. I know one of the MG17 ammo boxes had another painted W.Nr on it, something like 814 (records not to hand) so was from another aircraft in the unit.
All the other parts were marked up as 1227. The fin was missing and luckily they managed to locate the external plate by the access hatch which siad April 1943, Focke Wulf Bremem and W.Nr1227. The same number on a plate was on themain fin rib.
