Political officers in JG / NJG units?
Thu Jul 19 01:53:38 2001
Very briefly, there was a passage in Peter Hinchliffe's book " Ace of Diamonds " - bio of Schnaufer - and it spoke of a visit by a political officer to St. Trond to make sure that everyone was on the same page, so to speak, when it came to personal politcs and the Reich.
I have never seen / read / heard of anything like this in the Luftwaffe anywhere else. Is this a true event? Was there an attempt to keep the pilots " politically pure " once in combat? Or just in pilot school?
I have read of these officers in Waffen SS units - " Loyalty is my Honor " by Gordon Williamson for example, but then I expected to read about that situation in those formations.
Can anyone shed any light on this? Thank you!
