Sonderstaffel "Adler" (a.k.a. Luftverkehrsstaffel "Adler") was formed 1 Jul 41 at Ludwigslust as part of Luftverkehrsgruppe Ludwigslust. Equipped with Ju 52s, it flew transport and glider-towing missions on nearly all fronts, but especially the Balkans and North Russia, to supplement the insufficient regular air transport capacity available to the Luftwaffe. Many of it's Ju 52s were borrowed from other units. As a provisional formation, it was not permitted by regulation to be in existence for longer than 6 months, and it was disbanded at Ludwigslust on 31 Dec 41.
