Holdings at Maxwell Historical Records Agency

I am in the process of writing up my research on an uncle who was killed in action.
My research as been as thorough as I could make it.
I have been to the National Archives at College Park and reviewed all the textual records and pictures affiliated with the 381st Bomb Group.
I have never been to Maxwell but have bought alot of 16mm microfilm from there.
Would a visit to Maxwell be worthwhile?
Do they have holdings different than NARA at College Park?

AFHRA Holdings

Dear Bob,
I've been hoping for some time now that one of our illustrious Experten would share of his knowledge as to the holdings of the AFHRA. I haven't visited there since about 20
years ago or so, so my information is way out of date. Perhaps our Expert would care to share of his knowledge.
From my own visits, the AFHRA was Mecca, the gold mine of aviation history research and well worth the visit. I believe that microfilm records of the AFHRA holdings,
besides being at the AFHRA, itself, are also held at Boling Field and the NARA. Can someone confirm this? Thus, if you live near the Washington, D.C. area, this might be
the easier route to go. However, I don't know if you'd have the nice card files to thumb through and you certainly wouldn't have the documents, themselves.
Again, I'd love to hear from someone currently more in the know.
Regards,
Richard

HRA

There are those who know a lot more about HRA than I, but a few comments. First, some of the documents I have on the 16 mm microfilm are pretty poor quality, not
readable. I had to look at the documents to get all the info I needed. Second, there are some photographs (not that many) and I was able to copy them using a stand
already set up in the research room. Third, I feel that not 100% of the material is on microfilm. Add to that the card index to help you search and not to be ignored, the Air
University library in the same building which has additional microfilms books, and periodicals, including a good selection of foreign holdings going back before WWII. I try to
go there whenever time permits, the staff is helpful and other than the copying machine, facilities are usually not crowded.

Hi;
I use the AFHRA pretty regularly, I live only three hours by road from there. They are extremely helpful. they have a wealth of holding, including many oral histories from USAF historical figures.
I found it much easier to use than the NARA II facility in College Park.
