Bf 109 G-14 documentation
Sun Mar 3 01:24:03 2002
134.117.137.46
Undoubtedly this matter has been mentioned before. But, since I have known of this site for only a short time, I have been unaware of it.
Anyway, does anyone know of any documentation (ie. manuals, performance charts, etc.) on the G-14, in addition to those operating instructions for its MW system? It seems strange that what was to be the next major production version after the G-6 wouldn't even have a Part 0 manual to give a summary of its components.
Any comments would be appreciated.
Thanks
George

"Leistungen 109 G-14/U4 mit DB 605AM und ASM" Augsburg, July 44 (NASM captured German document microfilm R3984-F110). Sorry George, I don't have that reel here at home, and to make it worse, my rference sheet is alittle fuzzy so the 3rd digit of the reel no. might be wrong. I think you could contact Garber and they could confirm the refrerence and send you a copy. It is only two pages with calculated values of speed, ceiling, etc.
I would like to suggest a slightly different possibility on the G-14 documentation. Neither the G-10 nor G-14 are shown in plan 225 ( in effect in early 44), but K-2 and K-4 production were scheduled to begin in March. This of course did not happen until late in the year(first K-4s in October). It may be that both the G-10 and G-14 might be considered as "interim" models, as the production introduction of these two types is only two months apart. Of course, the planning for a/c production was radically modified when the "fighter staff" took charge in the summer of 44. I can only wonder if the nearly instantaneous shift from full production of G-6 to G-14 types was more a "paper" modification for admininistrative purposes. If the G-14 was really just a G-6 with all the latest mods, then in reality, new manuals would only be needed for the
newest features, i.e., the MW-Anlagen. The data comes from the GLC production plan documents (RG 242 USNA), the speculation is purely mine.

I wrote to Artie Bob to ask for more information regarding the GLC. He wrote back saying:

Subject: RE: GLC production plan documents (RG 242 USNA)
Dear Richard,
I have been out of town for a few days, just got back. GLC stands for General-Luftzeugmeister/Abteilung C, i.e., Chief of Aircraft Procurement and Supply, section C; which appears to be the section concerned with overall production planning. As far as the 8-262 data in the RG 242 documents I was referencing, the monthly production, planned and actual is given in terms of sub-type and plant location, no indication of W.nr. assignments. I have the summary documents for Jan-Nov 44 and Jan 45. If it is helpful, I will summarize the 8-262 info. Incidentally, the 1945 production data in Vajda's book appears to agree with the above documents where I was able to cross-check.
Best regards,
Artie Bob"

Richard

On another forum the dates for late model '109 a/c is being disputed. Can any give the start dates for G-10 and K-4 production. Also, when was their sevice debut?

The 1944 GLC monthlies first show both G-10 and K-4s in September. I am pretty sure these are acceptances which means they are not only off the lines but through the BAL sequence. Sorry, I'm a techie, no info on service date, but my guess is with new 109 models at that point, it would be only a matter of days or weeks, as there was probably no work-up time, just check-outs and go.

Any reliable production figures for the K-4?
Also, numbers built vs. actually delivered?

The GLC monthly reports give numbers actual vs plan by subtype and final assembly location. As noted above, I believe they reflect BAL acceptances, so the numbers are probably as close to accurate as any that exist. The monthly reports I have cover Jan-Nov 44 and Jan 45. A while back, I put a summary on this board including umbau number for A/S models. I frankly don't have time to re-enter the entire table which IIRC covered 22 subtypes, possibly someone saved a copy.
