Is there any way to trace specific aircraft on hand...

with a given unit when it was established, such as a strength return listing W.Nr. and type (maybe even Staffelkennzeichen)? I'd like to see if such reports are available for the following:

- establishment of Einsatzstaffel JG26 on 5 Mar 41
- establishment of 11./JG1 from the above unit in 10/41 (per Rosch; 1/42 according to Michael Holm's site)
- establishment of 8./JG5 from 11./JG1 in 3/42 (again, per Rosch).

I'm also looking for any Stkz. matched up for Emils in the 20xx serial range. What I'm trying to do is work backwards to determine some kind of history of W.Nr.2023...any assistance is gratefully appreciated!

Thanks in advance,

Lynn

If I understand your requirement correctly, the Luftwaffe's monthly aircraft inventory reports should contain much of the information you are seeking. These reports are available from the BA-MA for the period March 1942-December 1944. Extracts from them have been included in the more recent unit histories of Jochen Prien and friends. The reports indicate number, sub-type, intake, and outgo for the aircraft of combat units only. One will not, naturally, find Werknummern and SKZ reported there.

Thanks Rabe, but I am trying to get a bit more granular-

Summaries of those reports (or what appear to be very similar to my eyes) can be found on Holm's site, and they are certainly useful to see how many aircraft a unit was established with, as well as the additions and subtractions to the inventory...I was hoping, however, to find something which might contain an accounting by W.Nr. I guess we're ALL looking for such a magic bullet, eh? http://www.lwag.org/ubb/smile.gif

Thanks again,
