Hi all,

Looking for some information on a JU88 allegedly shot down over Athens on the night of 11th April 1941. Would like to know if it was actually shot down and squadron/crew details please.

According to 30 sqn ORB one Blenheim took off on patrol (S/L Milward) and at 2120hrs it engaged a JU88 which was caught in a searchlight. In the ensuing battle the Blenheim was shot down. (Milward parachuted into a greenhouse but otherwise unharmed, his gunner Sgt Crooks was killed)

According to ground observers the JU88 went into a spiral dive and exploded on hitting the ground although this result was not observed by Milward.

Thanks in advance.

Simon

I have received a message from Brian Cull who with Christopher Shores wrote AIR WAR FOR YUGOSLAVIA, GREECE & CRETE.

According to there book Milward's opponent may have been a Ju88 from 9/LG1 that crash-landed (? at Catania, Sicily) on return from a sortie to Greece/Crete and suffered 60% damage.

With this new information to hand can anyone add any other details please.

Regards,
Simon
