Hello to everyone, I am hoping that someone might be able to help with some information I am looking for, or even point me in the right direction.
I have been putting together a website about the battalion my grandfather served with in France during 1940 ( 7th Royal Sussex ).
On the 20th May 1940 the battalion faced a large element of the 1st Panzer Division, being a territorial unit and ill equipped they were finally over run, but had held their ground for a number of hours.
Anyway back to what I need help with is prior to that on the 18th of May, the battalion was entrained at St. Roche station just outside Amiens, here they came under attack from Ju87,s and the train received a direct hit causing a large number of casualties. A number of unconfirmed witnesses at the time claimed that two of the attacking aircraft were brought down by a bren gunner, but this is like I said unconfirmed. I would like to identify the Luftwaffe unit likely to have been involved. Any help, or like I said a nudge in the right direction would be great. Many thanks, Barrie.
