Some years later italian television showed a combat film showing the effects of the bombing of the harbour of Bari. A ship containing explosives and iprite (mustard) gas destroyed half town. It seems these were the effects of an high precision bombing made by few arado Ar 234 "pamperus" using a wire-guided Blohm&Voss rocket-bomb.(the same used in "Roma" battleship sinking)The bombers took off from a site near Verona with the help of rocket-booster. The 2nd Gruppo of ANR, leaded from Ugo Drago operated the air-superiority procedures necessary to keep clean the sky of Verona from allieds. All the bombers returned in Germany without any casualty. This was the
sequence of events as reported in TV. The combat film is Kept in Congress Library.

I need to know sqdn, men, colours and any further information about this icredible action. Some times ago an other italian guy (Mr.Spada)wrote about Me 262 in italy: he was wrong only a bit: they were Arado bombers.Very similar one to the other!

Hello Gabriel

It is my understanding that Kdo. Sommer was the owner of the only Ar234s in Italy, ever and that was only from very late March 1945. The Ar234b was never equipped with guided bombs as that was at least a two man job and it was a single seater. Yes, there were plans amd some actual equipping of the Ar234 with a radar station but that is a far cry from the two man cockpit.

It is my understanding that that action was undertaken by Do217s or Ju88s.

Cheers

Alan
