Bomber Command lost 2 Wellingtons on an op to L'Orient on 26/27 Jan 43. 429 sqn lost a wimpy on this raid BK163. This a/c disappeared without a trace. 424 sqn had wimpy BJ714 crashed at Ereac, 8 km SW of Broons, France.
Lt. Kuthe of IV/NJG1 claimed a Wellington at 0025hrs and Uffz. Kraft claimed one at 0305. Who got which Wellington?
Any help and any details such as a shoot down report of the 429 Wimpy would be greatly appreciated. I am currently working on the 429 Sqn history. I have a photo of this crew at my website at http://free.prohosting.com/~kopper/ac01.htm
On board the 429 Sqn Wimpy was Sgt. D. Lewis who, Chorley states in "Bomber Command Losses", was one of Bomber Commands youngest casualties at age 17.
