Hi,

I am presently writing a novel set in Britain in WWII, and I wondered if anyone could answer a simple question.

What was the colour of the uniform worn by German bomber crews during the Battle of Britain?

In my bookm a crew is shot down, and I want to get the detail right. Any colour pictures would be a bonus, as I only have B/W.

Thanks!

Any help will be acknowledged in the book

David,

It depends on which type of aircraft they were flying and what time of year.

If it were a bomber crewman they had overalls that could be either gray or blue that were usually worn in the spring and fall. I the winter they usually wore fleece lined leather jackets, pants and gloves.

They also had the option of wearing a regular field service uniform that is also blue. It was not as popular and much more dangerous should the plane be shot down on enemy soil.
