Help re WM books on Storch?
Thu Nov 8 21:15:30 2026

I'm working with someone trying to help develop decals in several scales for desert Fieseler Storches, preferably ones with unit badges and in desert camo, maybe also with white theatre markings etc. Can anyone tell me if either Wydanictwo Militaria book on the Storch has photos and/or profiles of any such birds? 2.(H)14 is an obvious option, but any staffel would do, even open to JG, StG, or KG liason birds with unit badge. I'm not quite ready to buy the books sight unseen. Please let me know which specific Storches are presented. Thank you very much in advance!

Fi 156 profile paintings in Wydawnictwo "Militaria" books
Thu Nov 8 23:00:14 2026

Tony,

I'd need to check in my library at home (which I'll be happy to do if you'll contact me by e-mail) to tell you specifically what marking schemes are covered in the two Wydawnictwo "Militaria" volumes on the Storch. However, my database listings indicate that volume I contains a lot more profile paintings than does volume II:

Karnas and Przymusiala: 'Fi 156 Storch: Vol. I' (Wydawnictwo Militaria series, No. 68; Wydawnictwo "Militaria" [Poland], 1998; in Polish and English; 75 pages; US$15) -- Fi 156A (inside front cover, p. 73), Fi 156C (inside front cover, p. 12, 16, 20, 24, 26, 31, 32, 47, 54, 67-71, 73-75), Fi 156D (p. 16, 24, 26, 32, 54, 68, 73), Fi 156E (p. 16), Fi 156K (p. 73), Mraz K-65 "Kap" [post-war Czechoslovakian-built Fi 156] (p. 43), MS.500 "Criquet" [post-war French-built Fi 156] (p. 59, 72), MS. 502 "Criquet" [post-war French-built Fi 156 with radial engine] (p. 72), MS. 504 "Criquet" [post-war French-built Fi 156 with radial engine] (p. 72), OKA-38 [WW2 Slovakian-built Fi 156 with longer nose] (p. 43)

Karnas and Przymusiala: 'Fi 156 "Storch", Moraine-Saulnier MS 500/506 "Criquet": Vol. II' (Wydawnictwo Militaria series, No. 100; Wydawnictwo "Militaria" [Poland], 1998; in Polish and English; 58 pages; US$16) -- Fi 156 V3 (p. 51), Fi 156C-1 (p. 51, 53), Fi 156C-2 (p. 53), Fi 156C-3 (p. 52, 54), Fi 156C-5 (p. 52, 53)

My database also lists 30 other books that include Fi 156 markings profiles. Please feel welcome to contact me "off-line" if you wish.

The Large Scale Plane site by Brad Hagen, Chris Sherland, and Jerome Braure, originally founded by Saso Knez as Aircraft Modeling in 1/32nd Scale in Feb. 1999, contains far more valuable resources than its name would suggest. Obviously an extremely popular site, the hit count is in excess of 250,000. Perhaps its most valuable assets for the Luftwaffe researcher are the book reviews and Charles Metz' cross referencing of sources of information to specific aircraft details. Thus, if you want to know what a specific widget on a Bf 109E looked like, Charles might have the book identified, along with the page, as to where that information can be found. The site address is:

http://kithobbyist.com/largescaleplanes/

Sections of Luftwaffe interest are:

What's new - The usual news of additions to the site in reverse chronological order.

Articles - In general, the articles cover presentations on model building, broken into sub-sections by era and type. One section, however, Full Scale, covers museum visits:

Smithsonian Air and Space Museum, by Chris Sherland

Bf 109G6 - 1 color photo

History of Bournemouth (Hurn) Airport, by Vernon Rabbetts - Includes development of H2S airborne radar.

A day with JG-72 "Westfalen" in Hopsten AB, by Dr. Menelaos Skourtopoulos - Article on a visit in Aug. 1999. Brief comments on history of the base are given.

Reviews - A number of book reviews by Mark Proulx are given in the Books - World War 2 Aviation section:

Classic Publications "Luftwaffe Colours, Battle of Britian; August-September 1940"

Classic Publications "Sturmstaffel 1"

Eagle Editions "Doras of the Galland Circus"

Eagle Editions "Major Hans "Assi" Hahn"

Eagle Editions "The Story of the ultra-rare Fw 190 D-13"

Wings of the Black Cross, Number 1

Previews - Previews of upcoming book reviews:

Major Hans "Assi" Hahn The Man and His Machines, by Mark Proulx

AeroMaster 32-008: Bf 109F-2, by Charles Metz

AeroMaster 32-009: Early Eastern Gustav Aces, by Charles Metz

AeroMaster 32-010: Bf 109F-2, by Charles Metz

Eagle Strike Productions 320340: Bf 109 Emil Aces at War, by Charles Metz

Eagle Strike Productions 320341: Bf 109F-2 & Bf 109F-4, by Charles Metz

Eagle Strike Productions 320342: Bf 109F-2 & Bf 109F-4, by Charles Metz

Eagle Strike Productions 320343: Augsburg's Flyers, Part VIII, by Charles Metz

Eagle Strike Productions 320344: Augsburg's Flyers, Part IX, by Charles Metz

Reference Material - Lists of books on specific subjects prepared by Charles Metz. Charles takes considerable effort to note what specific details are in each reference:

Mike:

I'm currently working on the 1/32 Hasegawa Fieseler Fi156C-3 Trop. To date, the only reference books I could find on this aircraft are:

1. Fieseler Fi 156 - Heinz J. Nowarra (Schiffer Military)
I doubt that this book will meet your needs. Very limited.

2. Warplanes of the Luftwaffe - edited by David Donald (Aerospace Publishing London)
It has a cutaway drawing and a decent profile drawing (front, side and top view) of a Fi 156C-3 Eastern Front.

Hopefully our colleagues will be able to come up with better references. I'm looking for a decent photo of the instrument panel, so if you come across one, please advise. Good luck. Dave

Since I recognize your name I assume you're looking for drawings to rebuild the real scale 1:1 machines?

Deutsches Museum in Münich would probably have some material since they have a lot of technical documents.

Another option is Krigsarkivet in Stockholm which have material and big blue prints on many of the aircraft operated in Sweden. Don't know from the top of my head if they have anything on the Fi 156 though but it is not unlikely.

France would be a natural place to search in as would Czech Republic. NTM in Prague has an excellent collection of technical documents. Again I haven't checked them for the Fi 156 but for other material they had a lot, even material not found in Münich.
