The website noted by Christer gives some brief information on Ewald, plus a few photos. The site is clearly intended to sell the book on Ewald, entitled WO WIR SIND IST IMMER OBEN .

Heinz Ewald JG-52-March 1,1945

Ok, I have a minor mystery.
On march 1,1945 Lt. Heinz Ewald (RKt) was shot down by German Vierlingsflak over the airfield
at Veszprem while being chased by P-51 Mustangs. Earlier he reported shooting down a P-51.
According to Obermaier, he was flying Bf-109G-10, Wrk 610964, "Weisse 10". In "The War Diary of Hptm. Helmut Lipfert", Fw. Pitzel of JG-52 was reported as also having shot down a P-51 in this engagement before being shot down himself.
Was the Mustang Group, the 325th FG? On this date the 325th claimed five victories over Lake Balaton, while losing one P-51D, s/n 44-15480 flown by Lt. Fred Wulfe.
Does anyone know anything more about this?
Thanks,
Carlos

Dear Carlos,
The story is in the book "Esau" of Heinz Evald, page 114.
The pilots were Lt. Heinz Ewald, Paul Slodczyk, Eduard Pitzl, Gerd Hauter, Anton Kellmeier.
Ewald's Mustang chrashed near Hajmáskér, East of Veszprém. He said Pitzl had a victory, too, but I found only one MACR Number, the 12 517 with Fred Wulfe.
Pitzl's Mustang fall down burning.Pilot's name ?
Esau's Mustang explosion in the engine. Wulfe sprang out with parachute.
The mystery is mystery.
George
