This is the website of the AviaScan Group, an aviation archeology group working out of Karelia, North-west Russia. The website address is:
http://www.sampo.ru/~aviascan/maine.html
The group appears to be a business, or quasi-business, of people interested in recovering WW II aircraft wrecks from the Karelia area. Services offered are:
Contract search and recovery of aircraft wrecks in Karelia
Contract research in Russian archives
Conduct military interest historical tours in Karelia
Background and photos are presented on a number of aircraft recoveries. Of Luftwaffe interest, these are:
FW 189 - 3 B&W, 2 color photos
Me 109 E-7 - 1 B&W, 1 color photo. It is believed that this aircraft probably formed the base for the reconstruction of the Me 109 F4 now in Canada. Three color photos are presented of the Canadian Me 109.
Ju 88 A-1, W.Nr. 68906 - 5 color photos
A table is provided of aircraft discovered and transported to the group's storage center, along with notation of the condition of the aircraft. Of Luftwaffe interest are the following:
Bf 109E
Me 109
Do 17
FW 190
He 59
He 111
Ju 88 A1
Ju 88 A1
In addition, 1 or 2 Ju 88's have been discovered, but not yet transported to the group's storage facility.
Regards,
Richard
