Heinz Rokker - NJG2
Tue Dec 11 00:36:54 2001
Heinz Rokker was a NJG2 pilot who finished the conflict with 64 victories.
He survived the war. Is he still alive today? If not, when did he pass and where is he buried?
Also, he wrote a book about NJG2. Any opinions on his work? I found nothing in a search of this board.
Thank you!

Rokker's book
Tue Dec 11 02:13:18 2001
Definitely worth getting if you're into the NF stuff. Its almost like a war diary of I./NJG 2 -- and probably is, though it isn't necessarily laid out as such vs. Kock's NJG 6 war diary. Many photos, including some that show very interesting, if not unique, armament schemes. Also includes claims, losses, lists of personnel. Very well done as these things go. Contact Richard Lutz if you're in the U.S., or the VDM (publisher) web site. I'd post it, but my work PC, where I had it saved, just got creamed by a virus.

I guess that TWO thumbs up for Rokker's book on NJG2. My German is very, very rough but I can plod through it. I found the book just doing a search on Rokker. A Canadian dealer had it listed.
I'm in the USA - Mass. I will try to locate a US dealer, unless you can reccomend.
I have also just learned that Rokker is alive and well, as is his gunner. The bordfunker was very ill a little while ago and may have passed away.
As always, thanks for the info!

Motorbuch Verlag, Stuttgart 1976 (2nd Edition)
ISBN 3-87943-413-1
This is based on the memoir/diary of Dr. Otto Möhlenbeck, medical officer of NJG 2. It covers the period from July 1940 until NJG 2 left the Mediterranean in mid-1943. There are several references to Rökker as well as a couple of photos of his aircraft. This is much more than just a doctor's memoirs, as there is much (narrative) detail about the units operations. Also in German.

Roekker not Rokker
Tue Dec 11 12:29:46 2001
Every name deserves correct spelling. If you are not familiar with the "Umlaute" of the German language, write "ae", "oe" and "ue" instead, not simply "a", "o" and "u".
That is why for international keyboards the correct spelling of famous German names is "Moelders", "Baer" ... and "Roekker".

Gidday,
I'd be interested in opinion's of Simon Parry's "Intruders Over Britain". I've seen it advertised SH for around $30US, which is a significant ammount given current personal constraints!

Peter,
On 12 march 2002 I have let a request on the two books on Intruders
Nick Beale told me :
Wakefield or Parry?
Tue Mar 12 12:33:57 2002
I have both books: Simon Parry's is about intruder missions by long range night fighters and by the Me 410 fighter-bombers of II./KG 51. These were largely directed against Allied bombers and their bases with a bit of general harassment thrown in.
Wakefield's is about pathfinding missions by medium bombers, marking targets for major raids on cities.
The two books are quite different in their subject matter and both worth reading.

Simon Parry's "Intruders Over Britain"

Hello
I bought and read, at least partly, the book ten years ago. I paid £GB 11.95 for it(paperback). If my memory serves me right it is a good book. Text is informative, the style maybe is not especially fluid but I'm not sure about that, 10 years makes recollections hazy. But for sure there are in appendixes the losses and claims of the German twin-engined units which flew the intruder missions AND the RAF losses attributable to the intruders. So it gives a realistic picture of the effectivenes of the German intuder operations. So if you are interesting in those ops I recommended the book. there is also rather many pictures but in the paperback edition the reproduction makes them too dark and some maps. Also lot of recollections of German and British fliers.
Hope this helps a little
Juha

Simon's book is a good book with a lot research behind it. 30 US is a bit much for the book but it has been out of sale for quite a while. Anyway, buy it, If you are interested in German night fighters over Britain.

not knowing anything about the intruder raids in the early part of the war i bought this book. i found it informative with out being over the top. i think it is a good starting point for a subject that is usually over looked.

The latest Luftwaffe im Forum arived today: on page 10 is a photo of a crashed Ju 88C-6 R4+BH. I understood that these aircraft were black overall. However, this view shows dark fuselage sides around the markings but what appears to me the conventional 70/71 camouflage on top. Comments anyone?
(Graham probably meant to say "Luftwaffe im Focus".

Ju 88C-6 colors I. NJG 2
Wed Oct 8 20:52:47 2003

In Heinz Rökker's book on I. NJG 2 most of the Ju 88 Cs in photos had the black O/A scheme. However, Rökker's own C-6 is shown with a light underside and sand brown meander over a dark upper surface (however I can't identify the time periodof the photos-probably pretty late as it has Lichtenstein BC). So they were'nt all solid black.
p.s. There were some neat all black A-4s in the Gruppe with "Englandblitz" emblems.
Best regards,
Artie Bob
