Does anyone know where I might be able to get the most recent ENGLISH editions of both Ernst Obermaier volumes on Knight's Cross winners at a reasonable price?

The most recent English language edition of his book of RKT is 1966, dual German and English. I have seen prices for this original volume from $60 to $200.

it must also be added that the original bi-lingual edition of these books contain nowhere near the information of the later Deutsch-only versions. The later printings, particularly for the fighter guys, includes info on aircraft that the various pilots flew, at least to the extent of the machines that they were lost or injured in, in most cases including WNr. and codes. Also, in many cases, the bio info is more complete. Learn a little of the language, its not that hard really -- particularly if within the limited context of the of this field of interest. You'd be surprised how much you can learn and extract with a good English-German dictionary. The basics come easy with a little effort -- Notlandung, Bauchlandung, Bruchlandung, Luftkampf, Kuhlertreffer, Fallschirmabsprungen -- these are common words to most of this stuff. (forced landing, bellylanding, crashlanding, air combat, hit in the radiator, parachuted -- if I can learn it, anyone can!)

You can get an english version here, http://www.leisuregalleries.com/kcbook1.html
but its signed and priced extremely high, $695.
I got a German text version and its pretty easy to get through, my German is not good at all and I can get through it. More info than in the English version as well.

Just to change the subject slightly!
DOES ANYONE KNOW ABOUT THE RECCE/TRANSPORT & BOMBER EDITIONS. I BELIEVE THAT AFTER HIS DEATH THE MANUSCRIPTS WERE BOUGHT (ALMOST COMPLETE) BUT THE PROBLEM IS CONCERNED WITH THE PUBLISHER?

Hi Ota,
Thank you very much for the info, it is of great help and is much appreciated.
Am I correct in thinking that Obermaier´s book "Ritterkreuzträger der Luftwaffe, Band 1 - Jagdflieger" is only available in German?

Hi Andy,
Well, there are two editions, one from 1966 issued both in German and English, and one newer from 1989 (?) which is completed but in German only. But it is an "easy" German. I think it is worth buying.

Hi all:
I'm searching the book "Die Ritterkrueztrager Der Luftwaffe 1939-1945" by Ernst Obermaier and Verlag Dieter Hoffman. All I have found is a german version, but I'm intersted in an english version.
Anyone knows of an english version of this book? Or there is only the german original version?

The current book in German, which I assume you are talking about was published 10-12 years ago. The earlier version had dual Engish and German was published in the 1960s. It brings $200+ if you can find one. The current version has many error corrections and has much updated information--a more useful book, even in German.

Lluis,
I have both versions of this book. I photocopied the original 1966 version at the Yale Library many years ago. The second edition from 1988 I bought last year. I agree with John Beaman that this later edition is far superior to the original. With the aide of a dictionary you should be able to understand most of the text.

Alfred Druschell´s victories

Hi folks,
I would like to know how many air victories Alfred Druschell had during his career as ground attack pilot. "The German fighter Units over Russia" by Werner Held (p. 135) shows him with seven aerial victories, but there is no mention about his final score.
Also, I want to know his total number of combat missions.
Many thanks in advance,
Douglas.

Douglas,
The sources I checked seem to agree that there is no certain total of victories for Druschel. He flew over 800 missions, and was lost on Jan 1, 45 as Kommodore of SG4, having returned recently to combat from a desk posting.
