Hi,
I am looking for same. Osterkamp as Kommodore as popular "Old Eagle" was logically good subject for wartime photographers but I am afraid that no photos of his plane ever appeared. Moreover in recent Jagdwaffe volume written by German team Prien, Bock, Stemmer and Rodeike, there is just 1 confirmed victory achieved by Osterkamp during WW II. All others are unconfirmed.
Could you share with me more details about Theo´s Albatros? I know just lozenge covered Fokker D.VIII. If somebody would have lead to photos of Theo´s black/yellow stripped Fokkers, I would be most grateful.
Regards
Jan

Prien 'Jagdverbande' Volume 4 again.

Mr. Penker was right -- I just today received notification from Prien's publisher, Struwe Druck, that Part 1 of Volume 4 of the 'Jagdverbande' series should be available this month, with part 2 being scheduled for September. BTW part 1 will cover JGs 2, 3, 26 & 27, while part 2 will cover the JGs 51 thru 77, I(J)./LG 1 and 3./Erprob. 210. These will be 'must have' volumes. Is Volume 5 gonna be on Barbarosa?

Not that I'm aware of. If you have a credit card try http://www.christian-schmidt.com/. Gabi will take care of you. I've been very pleased with the service from this German establishment. Plus, at 52 Euros (= $.94), it will probably be much cheaper buying direct from Europe vs paying someone's markup in this country.

I know, I know, they're 'so' expensive....

but for bang for the buck any and all of the various Prien books are the best of show for single-engined fighters. The latest 'Jagdverbande' series is particularly recommended. At about $60 per they really aren't that expensive (list for a typical Schiffer volume being about the same) given all that is contained within - photos illustrating various camo schemes, markings and ace's aircraft, detailed unit losses, claims, bases and unit commanders - really superb stuff here.
Add to that volumes from guys doing thorough unit histories such as Don Caldwell, Eric Mombeek, Walter Waiss, Ulf Balke, etc. one gets a full accounting of LW activities of the subject units.

Jim,
I'm unable to find any reviews of these books - can you give a brief summary - are they narrative histories or more of a statistical digest? Also, is there anything similar for the twin engined fighters?
I see that vol 3 covers the West up to end of the French campaign - am I right in assuming volume 4 covers (all of) the Battle of Britain?
TIA
Pete

Volume 4 is to be published in two parts and cover from 25.Jun 1940 thru 21.Jun 1941. Part 1 due end of this month to cover JG 2, 3, 26 & 27. Part 2 due Sept. 02, to cover rest of units. This series is more pictorial in content, focusing on camo and marking, but with all the details many of us like. The website shows all of the Prien/Rodeike/Stemmer/Bock titles.

Great site.....and...JG 3 in English...?

Is JG 3 "Udet" coming out in English..?...Amzon.co.uk is showing the title "JG 3 Udet in World War II" - no publisher info but ISBN no. 0764316818 as due for publishing in Sep. 2002. Hope its' not a false alarm....
These outstandingly formidable books by Herr Prien et al. always makes me feel a little hollow, since one may never be able to read the text (though, being interested in the luftwaffe, one ought to learn German). Is there any plan of him being translated into English...? I recall a similar discussion on this board some time back, but can't remember any details .

Francisco,
I don't have the information on Staiger you want, but in case you don't get it from your inquiry, it should be published around October in Part 2 of Vol. 4 of the Prien, et.al. series "Die Jagdfliegerverbande der Deutschen Luftwaffe 1934 bis 1945." Part 1 (JG 2, 3, 26 and 27) is due out around the end of this month.
