Protest by Galland towards end of war ?

Hi
Heinz Guderian mentions in his book "Panzer Leader" (which I found to be a great read) that towards the end of the war, Adolf Galland actually returned some of his decorations.
Does anyone have some more info about this?
Thanks in advance :-)

Wick/Galland Battle of France markings

In the recently published book, "Major Helmut Wick" by Ringlstetter, there are two photos of Wick's 109 in France during early June, 1940 (p. 43), and with the landing gear folded (p. 46). This is apparently his original Yellow 2, before he got W.Nr. 5344 as a replacement. My questions are 1) Does anyone know the date of the landing gear failure on the original Yellow 2? This is sometime in June, 1940. And second, does anyone know of a source for a clear photo of t he kill scoreboard for Wick on this early aircraft during the Battle of France.
My second question relates to Galland in the Battle of France. Despite the tremendous photo coverage of his career during the Battle of Britain and later, I've never seen any photo purported to show his aircraft while with Stab./JG 27 during the French Campaign. Is anyone aware of such a photo (s)? His scoreboard, if any, would have been up to 12 by the time he moved to III./JG 26.
Thanks

I think did an article on Galland from this time period and included a drawing of his machine. Don't know the reliability of this drawing and I don't specifically remember any photos.

Thanks Jim,
Does anyone know the actual date of this IPMS Deutschland publication, or more specifically have a copy of it from which I could obtain a photocopy?
Thanx

Galland: The First and the Last

In 1996 a limited edition two book set called The First and the Last was released with a slipcase cover signed by Galland and Werner Held. Does anyone know where this book can be found and how much it might be selling for?

Adolf Galand victories with Me262

Hello.
I found out from various sources that Adolf G. achived seven victories while flying 262.
Vic. No. 101 and 102 on 16.04.45. Two B-26 Mauroders shot down by R4M rockets.
Vic. No. 103 and 104. on 26.04.45. Two B-26 Mauroders shot down by 30mm canons.
Where are the other three vic.????
One of the sources is an excelent book " German Jet Aces of World War 2" writen by Hugh Morgan and John Weal, published by Osprey.
Thanks for Your help/Vijetnamac

A good question

A very good question which has not been addressed in any source I've seen, including any of Galland's biographies and all the books on German jet aces and units (including Forsyth's JV 44.) The same goes for the vicories of other JV 44 notables such as Steinhoff and Krupinski. All the more puzzling since they all survived the war, yet the information on their jet victories is obscure.

Hallo there,
I already have Galland's book "Fighter General, The Life of Adolf Galland" already, is his other book "Adolf Galland: The Authorized Biography" worth of purchasing?
Thanks in advance,
Rodney

Hey!
I've read "The Fighter General" by Toliver and Constable and thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm now in the middle of reading "The First and the Last", and am enjoying it just as well.
Now I've heard of another bio by David Baxter titled "Adolf Galland: The Authorized Biography". Can anyone give me any recommendations on it?
Thanks!
Bobbie

For commentary on Tolliver & Constable's book on Adolf Galland, the reader is referred to the "References & Reference Materials" forum, the "Books by Col. Raymond F. Toliver, USAF (Ret.) & Trevor J. Constable" topic.

I got the one on Molder's. Don't waste your money if you have other sources. Nothing new there.

Generally, I would agree with Jim P.'s comment, but in this case, I wouldn't dismiss this little book on Adolf Galland out of hand. Don Caldwell is co-author, and the text, albeit very abbreviated, is refreshingly objective. There are also some photos that may be newly published or at least infrequently seen. I only wish the authors could have expanded their research on the General into a comprehensive analysis of his wartime activities. That would certainly be a much needed contribution to the literature.

It's hard to fit a "comprehensive analysis" into a pamphlet, but we have a better summary of Galland's duties as General der Jagdflieger than you'll see elsewhere, plus, as Bob says, some fairly unusual pictorial content. The full story of the GdJ office will have to wait for my forthcoming RLV book.
If you guys in the USA can wait a little while, I'm expecting my shipment of books any day -- they're my sole royalty, which I took instead of zlotys. The JG 26 site will post the cover jpg and a blurb when they're available, and I'll also make another announcement on this site.
Horrido!
Don
