Default BF109 losses Tunisia March 1943

Hello guys,

I'm trying to put a list together of BF109 operational losses over Tunisia in March 1943 and then narrow it down to the pilots who were captured and made POW's.

So far I've got this information from various sources.

2 March 1943, Hptm. Adolf Warmbold from 2.(H)/14 was shot down at 17:10 in combat with British fighters, and taken prisoner near Souk el Khemis. He was flying Bf 109 F-4 Werk Nummer 7517 marked '6 + '

10 March 1943 JG 53 lost one 109 due to enemy fire at Mateur. That's all I know about this one.

25 March 1943, Lt. Hans Möller of 1./J.G. 53 was shot down by anti-aircraft fire north of Beja, and crashed on the road to Abiod. He was taken prisoner. He had been flying Bf 109 G-4 Werk Nummer 15 073, marked 'Black 5 + -'

My aim is to check the microfilms at the IWM when time permits but any help in the meantime would be very much appreciated.

Thanks
Ben

Default March 1943 prisoners

Hi,

Here are the three I./Sch.G. 2 pilots taken prisoner in Tunisia in March 1943:

04.03.43 2./Sch.G. 2 Bf 109 F-4 8925 ‘Black 6 + ’ Uffz. Herbert Müller P Probably due to enemy fighters S. Fl.Pl. Medenine 100 F

07.03.43 2./Sch.G. 2 Bf 109 F-4 7269 ‘Black 3 + ’ Lt. Heinrich Schiedat P Enemy fighters Barka 100 F

Schiedat escaped and was at large for two days before being recaptured.

12.03.43 1./Sch.G. 2 Bf 109 F-4 12 940 ‘White 1 + ’ Ofw. Edgar Brandt P Anti-aircraft fire, bailed out Dermaia 100 F

Are you interested in a specific pilot, date or incident? If so, that will make searching much easier.

Cheers,
Andrew A.
