Which crew members kept a Flugbuch?
I've been researching a Heinkel-111 that was shot down in May 1941 in Earlswood, England. I have a photocopy of a Flugbuch that belonged to a Beobachter who flew with that crew through March 1941. I was wondering if each member of a bomber crew would have kept a Flugbuch? I assume the pilot would. How about the flight engineer? Also, were they always the personal possession of the crew member, or are some of them in archives in Germany?
Thanks for your help! Bob |

Hi Bob,
Yes, each member of the crew kept a personal Flugbuch/logbook. They belonged to the individual, and many Luftwaffe personnel retained their logbooks after the war. What unit are you interested in? Some collectors have copies of thousands of Luftwaffe logbooks. Cheers, Andrew A. Air War Publications - www.airwarpublications.com |
