How to research a German medal

Hello!

I am researching about Vito Rinaldi, an Italian pilot from 8 Gruppo - 2 Stormo of Regia Aeronautica. He received an Italian silver medal for his deeds in north Africa in December 1940. Then, the 21st of October he received a German "verdienstmedaile mit swertern". I found the official motivation of the Italian medal in the IAF Ministery archives. Is there any such possibility for the German one, anywhere?

Thanks a lot,

Andrea

Thanks a lot for your quick reply!

Here http://www.medals.lava.pl/de/de3.htm I found the Verdienstmedaille mit Schwertern as a decoration meant only for foreigners, and that fits. It belongs to the Verdienstorden vom Deutschen Adler.

Lukasz Gaszewski's webpage Orders and Decorations of the Third Reich (Including former German Lands until 1918 and Austria) is at:

http://www.medals.lava.pl/de/de3.htm

It is part of the website RIBBONS OF ORDERS AND DECORATIONS OF THE WORLD found at:

http://www.medals.lava.pl/index.htm

The Third Reich webpage is very nicely laid out providing an extensive display of orders and decorations with a brief explanation for each. The webpage is divided as follows:

Orders and Decorations of the Third Reich (Including former German Lands until 1918 and Austria)

Decorations Conferred only to Foreigners

Foreign Decorations Most Frequently Seen on German Uniforms

Regards,
Richard
