Default NA (PRO) - AIR 14 and HW Series - Sources of Info. on the Luftwaffe

Hello One and All,

I thought that some of you may be interested in the following documents at the PRO.

Being in New Zealand, I only have the luxury of browsing the NA Catalogue and have not seen the files:

Firstly, from the RAF Bomber Command Registered files come the following:

AIR 14/3329 List of Captured German Documents Oct-44 to May-45

AIR 14/1815 Enemy aircraft: performance and causes of casualties Jan-42 to May-45

AIR 14/1349 Bomber Command signals intelligence and RCM reports (n/d)

Also of interest may be:

AIR 2/98 Report on the interception, jamming and intelligence reporting of German Air Force raid reporting traffic at Cheadle Apr-44 to May-45

Many of you may also be aware of the sigint files as a part of the HW series:

HW 2 Government Code and Cypher School: Cheadle Station: War Diaries and Miscellaneous Records 1917-45

This series is potentially a goldmine of information gained from signals intelligence on Luftwaffe activities.

HW 5 Government Code and Cypher School: German Section: Reports of German Army and Air Force High Grade Machine Decrypts (CX/FJ, CX/JQ and CX/MSS Reports) 1940-45

HW 13 Government Code and Cypher School: Second World War Intelligence Summaries Based on Sigint 1939-45

HW 51 Government Code and Cypher School: Combined Bureau Middle East (CBME): Records 1940-44

The best thing to do is to spend time browsing the HW listings at:

http://catalogue.pro.gov.uk/

From the first page, click 'Browse', then in to next page type 'HW' in the 'Browse from Reference' box and then click 'go'. The records are in Hierarchial order and it is easy to browse the listings....

Cheers
